I can't help but feel sorry for her but if I am honest, I also think "well you should have expected it". He has a talent for moving on to someone younger/richer etc....what a cad!

Thing is, Della and now Anthea both really loved him despite his failings - I pity any female he is involved with.

PoppyAmex Wed 12-Jun-13 10:43:06

I'll be the first to say it "when you marry the mistress, you create a vacancy".

He sounds like a horrible little man.

burberryqueen Wed 12-Jun-13 10:44:44

yes a horrible little man who was perfectly matched with Anthea, apologies if she is here.

dufflefluffle Wed 12-Jun-13 10:45:22

You pipped me to the post Poppy

NatashaBee Wed 12-Jun-13 11:34:02

Was about to say the same thing as Poppy...

ghayes Wed 12-Jun-13 12:00:04

Can't believe it's been 13 years since "flake-gate"!

YoungBritishPissArtist Wed 12-Jun-13 12:01:23

Shouldn't this be in Sleb Twaddle? Just sayin'.

Tis actually in the news though Young. grin

BeauNidle Wed 12-Jun-13 12:05:59

No sympathy. What did she expect. She took another womans husband. What did she think he was like?

bkgirl Wed 12-Jun-13 13:51:36

True and the tussle with Della was dreadful.

Kaluki Wed 12-Jun-13 13:53:41

karma's a bitch eh?
Couldn't have happened to a nicer person!!!

learnandsay Wed 12-Jun-13 14:10:54

Who gives a monkey's?

Mintyy Wed 12-Jun-13 14:12:56

I thought they split up ages ago???

ItsintheBag Wed 12-Jun-13 14:16:30

He is a shit of the highest order I bet she thought she was the one to change him.

I am no huge fan but you can't take someones husband. He cheated on his wife, and she cheated on her husband...and it seems Della went on to do the same with her next DH.
Their poor kids.

Lazyjaney Wed 12-Jun-13 15:25:49

Tabloid fodder, slebs shag/marry/divorce each other on a continuos carousel anyway.

encyclogirl Wed 12-Jun-13 15:31:20

I feel sorry for Bovey's dds. They were clearly very keen on AT and apparently convinced her to give him another chance.

I once met AT at Legoland, during an event for Downs Syndrome UK. She gave a load of her time free gratis, and I don't think there was any publicity about it outside of the DSUK community. I've always remembered that about her and liked her for it.

That was before flakegate.

clam Thu 13-Jun-13 22:53:31

I believe she had a sister who possibly had Downs, or something similar, but who died. I would imagine that helping such charities is particularly close to her heart.

I'm not her biggest fan, and he looks an absolute arse, but I did feel for her when I read that she'd been trying her hardest in recent months to be the perfect wife for him.

clam Thu 13-Jun-13 22:57:04

Sorry, not Downs, but spina bifida.

jellybeans Fri 14-Jun-13 10:27:25

No sympathy after what they/she did to his original family. What did she expect?

Pancakeflipper Fri 14-Jun-13 10:30:59

I actually feel sorry for her. I think he convinced her that he was all that with jingly bells on. And actually he's what Poppy says a horrible self centred little man.

Though she should never have ditched Peter Powell. Now there's a man who held his dignity whilst Turner and Bovey were waltzing round the media when they first got together.

ssd Fri 14-Jun-13 10:41:39

why on earth do these women fall for someone as odious as him?

LifeofPo Fri 14-Jun-13 10:45:19

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

yamsareyammy Sat 15-Jun-13 12:35:19

yes a dm link.
dm now just seems to say mumsnetter, and doesnt feel the need to explain what a mumsnetter is anymore.

and Anthea Turner is not happy with mumsnetters.

clam Sat 15-Jun-13 12:38:25

Well, to be fair, Peter Powell might also have been an arse to live with. But I agree, he seemed to conduct himself with dignity and refrain from slagging her off in public.

<waves to lazy journalists at the DM> They may have even got the quotes right this time. shock

For a paper that doesn't like MN it seems to spend the whole time reading it.

chicaguapa Sat 15-Jun-13 12:49:26

And vice versa! wink

I have stopped reading DM online unless there's a link in a thread and even then I don't always bother. I have no idea who the celebs are they are talking about half the time. The sidebar of shame is a mystery to me.

Frizzbonce Sat 15-Jun-13 13:15:04

I think it says a lot about her that his three daughters (the people most likely and reasonably to have an enduring dislike of her) seem to love and adore her. You can't buy that so she must have done something right with them.

And I've never understood the tidal wave of Flakegate hatred. There are millions of celebs who sell their wares or their fake hair (Cheryl Cole) for wads of cash and wouldn't think twice about flogging a Pepperami or a bar of chocolate at their wedding.

As for Bovey he looks like he leaves a trail of slime behind him. Urggh.

HazeltheMcWitch Sat 15-Jun-13 13:17:38

I know someone who is the SPIT of Grant Bovey.
He prefers that we don't mention it.

LeGavrOrf Sat 15-Jun-13 13:20:32

He is a ghastly weak looking man.

I do feel somewhat sorry for her. Marrying him fouled up her career didn't it.

Wickedwaterwitch Sat 15-Jun-13 13:23:29

Hmm, well, he was married when she started seeing him.

Wickedwaterwitch Sat 15-Jun-13 13:24:44

That having been said, I do feel a bit sorry for her.

LadyBeagleEyes Sat 15-Jun-13 13:28:29

Poor Anthea.
OK they broke up two marriages but the relationship did last a long time.
It happens.
He has now shown his true colours, and another woman has fallen for it.
What do they see in that creepy little man?

AnotherLovelyCupOfTea Sat 15-Jun-13 13:28:56

I hope she dumped him. He was a dickhead. Her next boyfriend might be a decent human being

TheCrackFox Sat 15-Jun-13 13:29:48

I reckon Anthea could rebuild her career after this - start with Loose Women and take it from there.

He looks like a poor man's circa 1983 Andrew Ridgely so God knows what she saw in the loser in the first place.

bkgirl Sat 15-Jun-13 15:10:10

That's true, Peter obviously has sensibly refrained.I guess that's the problem when a public figure - you invite people to comment on your life, particularly when you sign up for magazines like "Hello". That said, everyone deserves privacy and break ups are painful. It's just very difficult not to state the obvious (he has done it before - will do it again) and at the very least roll your eyes heavenwards when this happens, how much more so when those concerned are in the public eye? Anthea knows this and it must hurt but I guess you live and learn. It will be interesting to see if she publishes articles on it herself or takes part in chat shows etc thereby creating more debate. Debate on matters of the heart will never be stifled, look at history.

I like her I think. I loved her perfect housewife t-shirt folding show. She would be good on LW, better than some that seem to be on there Denzie Welch.

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 17:02:20

Ah, sparkling, I loved her TV show too. Guilty pleasure!

Dackyduddles Sat 15-Jun-13 17:03:27

Hurrah! I wish her a long and happy life without that useless gormless waste of space who was holding her back!

Good luck!

Watch in awe hermione grin

Pancakeflipper Sat 15-Jun-13 17:13:58

Ooh my DP loved her show - he still folds towels the ways she showed. And he bought drawer inserts for his socks and pants.

She had at least 6 unsuccessful attempts at IVF sad She deserves to have some happiness.

MatersMate Sat 15-Jun-13 17:36:45

what do these women see in men like him? He looks like an utter sleazeball.

Like Darren Day?! Never understood it.

Poor cow, did feel like she was flogging a dead horse when she said it was her own fault when he had an affair, as she was working away?!

I hope she meets someone nice next time.

Me too Maters. Who is single at the moment?

MatersMate Sat 15-Jun-13 18:12:05

George Clooney?! That would be a turn up! And would piss Bovey right off smile

AnotherLovelyCupOfTea Sat 15-Jun-13 18:55:20

is it the one that he was seen with a while ago, a friend of his daughters? ffs I thought she looked like tamsin outwaite. She was allegedly 24 but looked older.

AnotherLovelyCupOfTea Sat 15-Jun-13 18:56:03

GC aygizz gaygay thaygough

Wahla Sat 15-Jun-13 18:58:56

I reckon his boyfriend would be non too chuffed either wink

K8Middleton Sat 15-Jun-13 18:59:42

Nasty little shit of a man behaves in nasty shitty way... hardly news.

I am sorry for anyone who invests in a marriage and it doesn't work. I hope she takes up with a naice man now.

LeGavrOrf Sat 15-Jun-13 19:02:51

I am in awe of her sheet folding.

I know she has her haters but I think she was stitched up with flakegate, and I think she has been unfairly maligned to be honest. She must have gone through such misery with failed ivf, and her step daughters seem to love her, which says a lot. Best of luck to her, frankly.

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 19:17:22

Sparkling - thanks for sharing, that is awesome. She is a ninja of home making!

bkgirl Sat 15-Jun-13 19:19:48

"He was married to someone else and had young children !!!! What did she except" from DM

I guess therein lies the opinion of many people. If Anthea is annoyed at this, maybe she needs to look inwards and indeed at Bovey.

Redirecting anger at the public in such a situation when in the public eye is slightly sad.

AnotherLovelyCupOfTea Sat 15-Jun-13 19:25:36

I know she did a shabby thing pinching her friend's husband but to be frank she clearly did Della a huge favour. Della is probably feeling like it's all such old news now... There has to be a statute of limitations on sticking the knife in and saying 'there, told you' imo.

Well i think I should start a campaign to get her back on the TV. The Wright Stuff researchers-if you are reading this get her on the panel asap.

Wahla Sat 15-Jun-13 20:52:10

I'm not sure about all this 'poor Anthea' business over her marriage break-up. She knowingly aligned herself with a slimy, dishonest weevil of a man and the consequences of her actions are now playing out - boo hoo, that's life. Hopefully she will have a period of self reflection and be able to choose/behave better next time.

I do feel for her over the infertility and the loss of her career though. If what she say's about her first marriage is true, then she wasted her fertile years in a sexless marriage and then to have all that IVF must have been harrowing.

And as for her career, whilst her crass and immoral behavior during her affair/wedding to Bovey was certainly distasteful, many a male celeb has behaved as badly and worse and not ended up in showbiz wilderness - smacks of sexism to me.

All that said, I really don't want her smug, self-satisfied visage on my TV, thank you very much TV researchers unless it's day time shite, of which I don't watch. Then you can fill your boots.

It's ok Wahla I was thinking

Loose Women
Roving reporter on This Morning

That sort of thing. After a few months she can co host The One Show possibly.

MatersMate Sat 15-Jun-13 21:01:53

yeah, this morning is the sort of show that will give her a job. I don't watch it, so would be alright with me smile

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 21:06:10

She was a good presenter. Better than a lot of the numpties on these days

I'm looking at you holly willoughby and fearne cotton and Alex jones

He is odious.

Yes Chub she was a good presenter. She would be better than Holly Willoughby that's for sure.

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:15:49

I only want her doing "perfect housewife". Thanks to Sparklng, I have been checking out her wisdom on YouTube tonight. She is awesome!

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:16:51

Being better than Holly Willoughby is no accolade. I see she's resorted getting her baps out again tonight. She comes across as a complete airhead.

That Perfect Housewife series needs bringing back at the very least. She can bring it up so date with jet washers and steam cleaners.

*to date

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:18:27

Ooo, Anthea brandishing a steam mop! <faints>

Re Holly W. I don't see how you can expect to be treated as a serious interviewer on one show while arsing about with Keith Lemon and smutty innuendo every week on another. confused

Anthea would love the steam mop definitely. grin

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:25:16

This is what I mean about HW being an airhead - she seems.....easily led. "oh, you want to do jokes about my boobs? That's ok along as I'll be popular with the cool kids". You don't see Kirsty Wark doing that.

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 21:25:24

I agree sparkling.

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 21:28:17

just watched her t shirt folding.

That is NINJA

Exactly hermione. HW has no gravitas whatsoever. I don't think anyone can take her seriously.

Have you tried to do it Chub?

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 21:30:46

The slice of bread!

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 21:31:22

No but I want to

Is she grabbing the back as well or just the front?

Towel folding No edges. wink Genius.

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 21:34:09

It's not working for me

I may have to go and get a T Shirt.....

LadyBeagleEyes Sat 15-Jun-13 21:37:11

Well I love Holly, so there <sticks tongue out at all Holly haterz>
She's a daytime telly presenter, she isn't supposed to have gravatis.
She comes across as warm, friendly and fun.
I think I'd like her in real life.

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 21:37:22

That towel fold is like a girl guide bed roll

God that took 10 year old me some time to master

Wahla Sat 15-Jun-13 21:38:14

The t-shirt thing is awesome but what's with the bread? Has the daft bint never heard of a hoover?

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 21:38:33

Why isn't she supposed to have gravitas?

Anyway it's worse. She lacks credibility.

Yes but LBE she needs gravitas to interview Politicians and people who have been in the News as awful things have happened to them and their families. Her head tilt/sincere face is really fake. Sometimes she cries. hmm

Have you had a horrible flashback Chub? grin

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:40:29

I LOVED the towel folding. I need to get rid of the kids so I can spend tomorrow folding things.

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:41:42

Wahla - she has def heard of a Hoover. She teaches us the proper way to do it in another episode. grin

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 21:42:08

The towel folding I get. It's a thirds/thirds/ thirds thing.

The t shirt fold is like sorcery.

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:43:34

Why should there be a woman with gravitas? Why does the bloke have to be the credible one (can you imagine being so vapid you make Philip Schofield seem heavy weight?). Judy was brilliant - warm, accessible, but a journalist with a hard fought track record. Why can't we have someone smart?

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:44:25

Why shouldn't, why shouldn't. Not why should - obviously.

Ooh Pip Schofield isn't credible either. And as for Mr & Mrs Holmes. sad

Eamonn was mean to AT on breakfast telly.

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 21:47:49

Eamon is not nice

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:48:44

There has never been a replacement for Richard and Judy in my eyes. I like John Barrowman as the himbo though, and you could have Louise off BBC breakfast as the serious one. Job done.

Steph off BBC is my favourite person ever. She is fabulous. Pretty, smart and looks like she would be a great laugh.

Sorry Steph off BBC Breakfast. smile

LadyBeagleEyes Sat 15-Jun-13 21:52:24

I think that Holly sometimes get's too emotionally involved.
I don't see that as a bad thing, she's not Jeremy Paxman.
And I love the interviews her and Phil do when they're trying to stop laughing at some of the nuttier guests they have on there.

TSSDNCOP Sat 15-Jun-13 21:53:29

oh dear

They might not have been sponsored, but at what point on your wedding day do you unwrap bars of chocolate and look like total twats to camara?

meglet Sat 15-Jun-13 21:54:47

I have the same linen cupboard labels as Anthea. Nickel plated from the White Company IIRC.

they didn't fit in the poxy airing cupboard in this house so are stuffed in a drawer until we move. Anthea would have a heart attack if she saw my airing cupboard

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:55:00

Sparkling, you are right, Steph is fab. Business insight delivered in a Geordie lilt. Love it!

I am a bit in love with her hermione. grin

hermioneweasley Sat 15-Jun-13 21:56:51

I don't even have a linen cupboard. I am unworthy of Anthea.

scottishmummy Sat 15-Jun-13 21:58:18

god,I hope she doesn't do any more telly to revive her fluff and fold career

LadyBeagleEyes Sat 15-Jun-13 21:59:00

I do love her accent, though I've no interest in business.

Aww sm not even another Perfect Housewife series. How's your airing cupboard looking?

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 22:01:58

OMG mystic meg

Chubfuddler Sat 15-Jun-13 22:02:55

Normal people call it an airing cupboard hermione

HazeltheMcWitch Sat 15-Jun-13 22:04:18

I do love that towel-folding clip (esp as it reminds me of my mum, who is a complete Slattern, house-wifery-wise, but who saw that series and still PRIDES herself on her folded towels...), but - what a poorly-designed cupboard space! Anthea, I expected more from you. Your shelves should run higher, and they should be deeper - the towels over-hang. An I like your natty labels, but the text should have been smaller, as currently the left-hand border of the S (of SK...), is slightly occluded by the label holder.

scottishmummy Sat 15-Jun-13 22:07:21

my press?its stappit fu wi towels
no fluff and fold here
on principle

grin sm. I put my T Shirts on hangers, AT wouldn't like that....

I think she'll do well again now.

I hope she can look back and see what an arse he is. And that his dds stay close to her. I feel they will do though.

scottishmummy Sat 15-Jun-13 22:10:21

I hang my stuff up pronto out of wash, my shirts dp irons

I hope someone gives her a break Juniper.

RedPencils Sat 15-Jun-13 22:13:13

Woah, Hazel, poor Anthea's having a shit week. No need to slag off her airing cupboard as well. grin cut her some slack.

I do the towels, and also learnt how to put a kingsize duvet cover on without having to climb inside. And Seagrass baskets, I've got millions of them thanks to Andrea.

Fell a bit sorry for her tbh. Her career completely tanked after her affair. A man wouldn't be judged so harshly.

I think they will Sparlkingbrook.

Sparklingbrook rather grin

lunar1 Sat 15-Jun-13 22:35:36

Can't bring myself to feel sorry for her due to the way they started.

I also don't think she can moan about what people say. if you make money selling your perfect life to the public, you can't really be surprised when the public have an opinion.

cocolepew Sat 15-Jun-13 22:40:54

I think you'll all find its called a hot press grin

cocolepew Sat 15-Jun-13 22:45:47

OMG at the tshirt folding, she's s bloody witch shock

scottishmummy Sat 15-Jun-13 23:01:16

well,he's a shagger,an ole poon hound
no surprises

joanofarchitrave Sat 15-Jun-13 23:03:37

the tshirt folding is a Japanese technique, but kudos to her for learning it. I spent ridiculous amounts of time watching someone on youtube doing it but I still couldn't get it right and threw the tshirt across the room in a fit of temper.

siezethenight Sun 16-Jun-13 08:10:01

I like Anthea Turner. I know the whole affair thing was a bit hmm but I can almost justify it by the fact she clearly loved the man, it was not some flash in the pan thing made out of a woman thinking she can just take what she wants because she was famous. These things happen and that's that - they do. They were together a long time and as others have said, his children clearly love her so she must have been a great Stepmum to them.
Didn't they go through bankruptcy as well? And she stayed there with him and they sorted that out. That is very telling as if she was at all shallow, she would have fled off at no money and started over on her own perhaps?
I think the man is a p**ck. At least his children are older now and more able to understand their father's behaviour... As the twattish behaviour that it is.

If she is moving - Anthea, if you are reading this and you go through the phase of wanting everything associated with the man gone (kids aside!) You know that great coffee maker you have in your kitchen..? The one we saw when you were teaching people how to be organised and clean up the house better... Yeah, that's the one - Pm me for my address, I will take that off your hands happily...

Good luck to her I say. She deserves a bit of happiness now.

OnTheNingNangNong Sun 16-Jun-13 08:28:25

My husband saw the towel folding thing and said she's spent too much time with squaddies, as that's the way they are taught.

Bovey is a fucking slimeball who makes me shudder. Anthea is alright I do not own any of her books/DVDs, oh no

Chubfuddler Sun 16-Jun-13 08:29:50

I spent ten minutes hours trying to do the t shirt fold last night. I CANNOT do it.

I have the ironing pile from hell today Chub. I will be practicing later.

chicaguapa Sun 16-Jun-13 10:17:07

I did the tshirt folding thing and didn't like it. I like everything tucked inside and this way one sleeve is loose underneath. It makes it difficult to get one out of the pile as it messes up the one on top and creases the loose sleeve.

I'd be surprised if Anthea really did fold her tshirts that way.

I instructed DH in the art of towel folding à la Anthea, but he struggles with the concept of no edges so they look worse than before! But now I can't get him to stop.

Parabolica Sun 16-Jun-13 21:58:01

OMG just watched those t-shirt folding and towels clips and am obsessed with seeing more of Anthea's domestic goddess tips. How did I miss this programme!!! Its so bonkers its brilliant.

I know I shouldn't but I do feel sorry for her. Obv never met him but always thought Bovey was a sleazy womaniser (see James Hewitt) who liked the buzz of a fling with a high-profile TV star (as Anth was then) and then relished the high life and celeb status/friends through Anthea. Yes, she did wrong, takes two to tango etc but it does seem like the poor cow just fell hopelessly in love with him and couldn't help herself. At the end of the day Brangelina did the same and everyone pretty much got over it much sooner. He was basically responsible for wrecking her career and there was something v sad at seeing her reduced to showing people how to fold towels. She paid a very high price for love but ironically this humiliation might redeem her slightly in the eyes of the public and she might be able to rebuild her career.

Would love Bovey to be cut adrift and be declared bankrupt but expect being a grade A shit he will try and fleece Anthea for everything he can get.

Oh bum. Did the ironing and forgot to try the t shirt folding. sad

YY to Anthea rebuilding her career Para.

Chubfuddler Sun 16-Jun-13 22:04:52

I've folded over the towels so there are no edges showing though.

Concreteblonde Sun 16-Jun-13 22:09:26

So much for her charidee work -read the last line hmm

I hope she retires from TV gracefully. Another desperate stab at a reality show would be a step to far.

Was that from 2004 Concrete?

BeauNidle Sun 16-Jun-13 22:36:10

Bloody nora, I have made it to the DailyMail grin

That was my quote they used.

So AT wants to meet with us who have commented to discuss the comments?
Anthea - What you needed to do was to say you have been a complete fool even getting involved with a married man in the first place. Tell people that you accept it was bang out of order to take another womans husband and the father away from 3 tiny children. Accept that karma has come back to bite you well and truly on the arse.
Then, you can build up a bit of respectabiulity, and get your life back on track. Leave him to get on with being the prat that he is, and be thankful that you are out of it.
I wish you well.

Fame at last Beau. grin

fedupofnamechanging Mon 17-Jun-13 11:36:45

I'm torn on this.

On the one hand, if you acquire your husband as the result of an affair, it shouldn't come as a surprise if he then cheats on you with someone else.

Still, I think she has been given harsher treatment than others who have done the same thing. As far as Flakegate goes, she was one of the first to have a sponsored wedding and people thought it was tacky especially given that her meeting with Bovey wasn't exactly Romeo and Juliet. Nowadays though, loads of slebs have endorsed personal events.

Parabolica Mon 17-Jun-13 12:07:15

Where would the Daily Mail be without Mumsnet, Twitter etc? They might actually have to do some real journalism.

That said would be quite happy to meet Anthea to see that t-shirt folding in the flesh! grin

CashmereHoodlum Mon 17-Jun-13 12:31:21

I've got as far as the first line of the DM article.

Tucked away in a dusty box in her attic...

Anthea really should sue for this sort of libel. I'm sure her attic would be nothing less than immaculate.

Chubfuddler Mon 17-Jun-13 12:35:09

I think the snowflake photo just looked particularly tacky, probably because of the way Bovey is leering cheesily in the shot.

grin Cashmere very true.

BeauNidle Mon 17-Jun-13 13:32:25

The thing is.

Yes affairs do happen
Yes people do leave their partners and marry the afairee (?? !!)

Where she made everything one hundred times worse was

Having a huge wedding
Selling the photos to a magazine
Writing a book in detail about the affair and the first time their lips touched bollox.

And generally rubbing Della and the childrens nose in it.

A quiet wedding with a couple of witnesses and slink out of the limelight to live happily (or not in this case) ever after.

She played it wrong. She stole another woman's husband, and expect the world to be nothing other than delighted with the fact. How stupid could she be. And he is an arseholio of course too.

And I agree whole heartedly about the dusty box in the attic. Maybe she can make a few bob suing the DM for starters. She must be 'Disgusted of Esher' or wherever she lives.
