SKY news story
Just saw this and couldn't beleve it, whilst I know that striking an officer is against the law surely a 10YO should not be violently harmed (which tasing is IMO]] in retalliation!
And as for her mother telling him to do it if he had to... well enough said...
Good grief. That is dreadful.
"The youngster was also kicking and resisting every time her mother tried to get her in the shower before bed, the report continued."
And that is disorderly conduct is it?

How about "well, if you won't shower you'll be smelly and I bet your friends will let you know about it soon enough"?
I did actually use to have to pin dd down when she had panic attacks, and I'm only 5 foot 4. And have had no police training whatsoever.
Whimp of a mother, whimp of a policeman. And all over a shower ffs.
I don't suppose all Americans are mad, Riven; if they were, this would hardly have made the news, would it?
Just got back on, so glad that it wasn't just me who thought this was a bit harsh!
If anything I think the mother and policeman should be fined or something as surely this is somehow breaching laws... even in America

Does it say who rang the police?
I'm sure I read it was the mother who rang the police. Total idiot, who on earth rings the police for their kid having a tantrum. I guess they'll sue now.
Was a bit shocked though that the girl is actually been charged with something.

Truly awful. Poor girl.
It is America, land of the court case though, so maybe somebody in her family can help her sue the police department.
There must be rules that they aren't allowed to use tasers on children.

Arresting the girl on "disorderly conduct charges" is almost worse than the tasering, what kind of society arrests children for being naughty or out of control? They're basically criminalising children's behaviour.

busybutterfly - you think that the child is at fault here?
If she has emotional problems then I'm guessing her parents may be the root of them - "tase her if you need to" can you imagine saying that to an armed policeman simply because your teenage duaghter was having a strop?

My toddler occasionally lies on teh ground in the shopping centre, especially when I say it's time to leave the little play car thingy.
Should she be nicked for disorderly behaviour?

Agree it sounds awful, but I think it can be hard to judge - they may have genuinely been frightened that she would hurt herself. I think in some cases tasering is preffered becuase of temporary nature rather than restraint by force.
Presumably more to the whole thing than just a shower.

Blimey, my 9 year old daughter with special needs quite often has meltdowns where she gets violent- only last week I gor kicked in the throat and had my nipple nearly twisted off <ouch>, but it would never occur to me in a million years to ring the police. I am going to ask Social Services if there is some kind of course I can go on to learn safe restraint techniques, and get their help to make her room a safer space for her when this happens. What kind of a crazy world are we living in?

I think that is the problem - I would imagine safe retraint is not well known.
Do you think it was like when people leave elderly relatives with dementia in A&E becuase they cannot cope any longer - almost a 'look how bad this is - I cannot cope'?

I don't think that administering a massive electric shock is a lighter option than holding them down
Tasers have killed people. And I imagine the setting is set to incapacitate a large man rather than a teenage girl.

Sorry for some reason I had it in my head the girl was 15.

FFS this is nuts.

Remember when they put that 5 year old girls in handcuffs in the US too? Or that woman who got tasered because she didn't want to be arrested in her car and her two children left on their own. Or Sarah Palin's BIL cop who tasered his own 10 year old son?
They're all nutters.
