"on mumsnet this week" in the Mail. Is this a new thing

1009 replies

jujumaman · 13/08/2009 10:32

Came across this this morning when I should have been working

Is this a new weekly rip-off by the Mail? Or has it been going on for months and I'm behind the times as usual

I'm not quite as virulently anti the Mail as mnetters, find it silly rather than the end of civilisation as we know it. But still ...

All good advertising!

so there's a regular column about a MN thread??

Ah. Behind the times then . I'm sure the tone of the old threads was delighted to be included in the Mail

Dunno, I think so. I don't see what the problem is, tbh. Anything that raises the profile of a business - which mn is - is good. People read it and maybe come and join - great. Companies read it and think great place to advertise, that brings in money, that further improves the site - great.

cheap and easy way to get a story, think they should pay all MNetters they quote

yeah you're right Hecates, it's just my mum reads it . Might have to be more careful about what I say - or is it only on the DM website??

Does your mum think of you as 'stealthpolarbear'?

If not, your secrets may still be safe.

Looks like MNHQ knew nothing about it last week

Feel like I am going to have to self-censor now. Imagine the of being quoted in that crapola rag.

I find that quite worrying - I thought the last one was a one off.

StealthPolarBear · 13/08/2009 10:49

No, she doesn't RedLentil but I am sometimes not as discreet as I should be . And usually in chat too - so probably the kinds of threads that willl be quoted!
Does anyone know if it's actually in the newspaper, or just on the website? Or is that a silly question?

StealthPolarBear · 13/08/2009 10:51

Ah that other thread has given me the answer - I need a swear word or a DM hating phrase in my name.

Bloody Hell! It wasn't even Thunderduck who was pregnant? How can they get such basic things wrong? She'll be steaming...

I reckon that a journalist who has been slagged off on here is after revenge....

bleugh at being in DM. It actually feels very wrong to me. We are not entrants in Big Brother or any other crap reality show, we are just members of the public, not seeking publicity but conversation. if we were all chatting in a pub (very public area) we would be beyond furious if our conversations were recorded in a paper as daily column.

Could you imagine 'this week in the Crown and Anchor...'
To me its like that really (but one heck of a big pub!)

bleh · 13/08/2009 11:08

I was wondering about that. I had no idea she was pregnant, which is alright, because she isn't. Is she?

OYBBK, there is a columnist in one of the nationals who reports overheard conversations. I remember because NotQuiteCockney's DS featured in the column one week.

I'd thought last week's was a one -off , hadn't seen it before in DM apart from as a passing reference in her previous articles. On the other thread I raised a question re. copyright of posts since MN claims it. btw the journalist was a well known and liked ex Mnetter(presumably still lurking) so am slightly surprised she has resorted to this. She was never slagged off iirc but did take upset at some editing by MNHQ.

If/when my papers turn up today (regular paperboy must be on holiday) I'll check if it is in print too.

Can it really be interesting for people who aren't on mumsnet? Looks incomprehensible when presented like that.

Is thunderduck preg? I just searched and couldnt find anything. Where do they get their stuff from?

I thought some views on MN were very DM-like (the middle class obsession) but had no idea it goes to this kind of collaboration. Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.

No she isn't!! She is off on a drinking binge-come-grouse-shoot IIRC...

Portandlemon - really? There really is no respect for privacy any more. Do people really have to huddle in private houses to talk without worrying it will be in the papers?

[naive]

I am also shocked that it's this particular ex-mumsnetter doing it (on the bright side, it means MNHQ already have her contact details...)
