Hi, to make it easier for people who are finding this subject very distressing, we're going to keep all Baby P posts in one thread. If you'd like to discuss this subject, then here is the thread to do so. We'll go on the other threads and link to this one. Thanks very much.

Me too.

May I just ask why the ones that said they didn't want tio see this thread were the first to comment?

If you don't want to read it don't.

I saw a headline today saying Baby P's Grandma was worried. Not worried enough to remove him though.

I was so annoyed my Johnathan Dimbleby on Saturday that I was going to email Radio 4. Sharon Shoesmitgh's daughter was on complaining about the press about her mother and he said he was sure everyone would have sympathy with her. Well I don't.

Thing that gets me: Loads of people on here are whineing on about corporal punishment doing no good. And the softly softly existing judicial system does work? Bollocks! If it did, these monsters wouldn't be torturing innocent little children again and again and again. And if they did, they would never see the light of day again. Something HAS TO change or it won't be long before we're seeing another little innocent face on our tv screens.

All this about SS trying to keep children with their biological family. While they tried to do that with me more than 30 years ago and f***ed my life up big time. Some things people just can't learn.

LOL lulumama. Someone wanting to apologise I think.

I don't think individual social workers are to blame. They are just normal people trying to do their best in an over worked and under funded system. They are paid a pittance for what they are expected to do so obviously have motivations other than money to do this difficult job.

gateau - there has always been horrific crimes being committed even when there were penalties such as you advocate. It doesn't work.

Do you have evidence of as many child tortures and murders taking place in the days of corporal punishment as there are now connie?

conniedescending · 17/11/2008 13:43

gateau - well Amelia Dyer springs to mind. She was hanged for killing babies....

I read today there was another girl at the house (The girlfriend of the lodger) at the time abuse was taking place. She had admitted she witnessed some awful things and did and said nothing as she was worried about splitting with her then BF.
It is hard to find an article which just focusses on facts on the case and not gruesome details (which I hope this thread will do) but the facts and details do overlap I now.
I am just again stunned at how many people came into contact with this child and let him down.

I fear nothing will be able to stop "people" like this mistreating children. Although that is in no way diminishing what SS should and could have done to help this particular case. Although the utter depraivaty of this story is beyond anyones' comprehension.

I have been sticking my head in the sand with this tragedy but today for some reason I read an online article that listed some of the abuse and I feel so sad now, I can't stop thinking about that poor little boy, wishing that somewhere along the line somebody intervenes and takes him out of his misery. Everybody is pointing the finger at someone else but surely those that witnessed and took part in this despicable catalogue of abuse should be the ones to blame yet they remain anonymous?

Does anyone know why they have the right to anonymity?

Wow, you can cite one case Connie. Nowadays there seems to be one case of child abuse and/or murder after the other.
Somne severe judicial measures needing to put in place with immediate effect to eradicate, or at the very least reduce this endless cycle. Short prison sentences are not the answer.
