I always wanted to be an out of date prince who was scared of progress and people with ambition...but we've already got one of those.

Awww, my heart bleeds for the poor poppet, JT!

I think it is the biggest, most hypocritical load of tosh yet from our beloved King-to-be.

Long May He Wait.

It really bugs me when people call Chazzer a Modern Monarch and lefty types confess to soft spot just because he happens to espouse views that coincide with theirs (even though he came at it from a completely different direction). He is distinctly Un-Modern, I think, in that he actually wants to Govern and Rule.

Rant rant rave republican seethe gibber.

The best part of this is that he thinks that 'social utopianism ... believes humanity can be genetically engineered to contradict the lessons of history' ie that the lesson of history is that people like him are naturally at the top. Really? His natural place is in a tumbril.

interesting article BUT why do they mention that Elaine is Afro-caribbean - is there some relevance to that fact?

Well I just had a discussion with my 5 year old yesterday about astronauts. She wanted to know if she could be an astronaut, and I told her yes, she could be anything she wanted to be as long as she works hard and studies hard at achool.

I guess Prince Charles would have told her not to be so silly.

Line them up against the wall, that's what I say. Not usually an advocate of violence, but it has its place.

DP always points out that Chaz's lot still believe in the divine right of kings.

We are quite nice people, honestly.

I did actually feel so angry when I read this that I contemplated writing to the man himself - but of course, it would never reach him, and would be assigned to the "Loony who writes in green pen" pile by his personal assistants.

Ho,hum

He has never had to deal with face-to-face with criticism, other than from other members of his family. Imagine what effect that would have on one's intellectual and emotional development, on one's self-importance and on one's judgement. Makes me almost sorry for him, but not quite.

a aparagraph from the guardian article:

"This is all to do with the learning culture in schools. It is a consequence of a child-centred education system which tells people they can become pop stars, high court judges or brilliant TV presenters or infinitely more competent heads of state without ever putting in the necessary work or having the natural ability. "

maybe charles was alluding to the "people who know people" culture of some middle class professions or even how having a middle class background and 10 A*'s will get youinto Oxford however a perso with the same qualifications and no bentley wouldnt have a chance.

i think he inadvertantley chastised himself in that being born into a position doesnt mean you are qualified or able to do it well. which is the same for a lot of people.

however to wrap that up in a "know your place - no aaspirations please" package was seriously wrong. although am not totally convinced that that is not the media hype rather than charles.

hope is the greatest gift you can give a child.

my daughter is 11. she is partially deaf - she cant sing to save her life - should i tell her that now? stop singing in your bedroom custardette you will never have it as a career.

no my daughter at aged 11 want to be something to do with computers as a job, but in fantasy land which exists inside chidlrens heads she want to be avril lavigne and it hink i should let her.

however lets consider if she wanted to be a princess at ages 6. i should have told her that only people who are born into royalty or marry into royalty can be princesses so get that net curtain off your head

my 15 yr old son want to be a carpenter nothing else - there are no delusions of grandure there

my 11 year old son wants to be a racing driver "now custardson, being a racing driver isn't realistic. you should seriously consider talking to Browny across the street who could teach you how to drive motors fast - but just dont let the bizzies catch you"

hope is the greatest gift. realism stinks especially if your reality is that getting a job on more than minimum wage isnt very fucking likely

Just because you were 'born to be king' doesn't mean you will actually be any good at it - poor old Chas he's just not of this world, is he? My Dad always says 'when I'm king I will... blah, blah, blah'.... god help us all cos he's worse than Chas. He thinks Chas is great cos he works for him indirectly (Duchy of Conrwall!) I kind of got the impression that Chas would be a reluctant monarch but with attitudes like his running rampant through the family, which one of them would be any better?
