I was very sad when I saw this earlier this am. I thought he was a real dish in the 70's and 80's in the superman films.I know he has been "lucky" since his accident in that he had the money and contacts to access the best treatments, but he did a lot to raise the profile of spinal cord injury throughout the world.

Oh no. He wanted so badly to walk again. As GRMUM said, he did such a lot of good, high profile campaigning.

The really sad thing is that he was able to move his feet when the medics got to him after the accident - his spinal cord was still intact then. Somewhere between the accident and the hospital, it was severed. Its the classic one they use in training docs to deal with head and neck injuries.

Sad to hear he's died - the Superman films are such a part of my childhood! He always said he was sure he would walk again. Maybe now he is - I hope so!

So upset this has happned today, I keep thinking of his progarmmes about seeing himself walking. I used to have a major crush on him when I was younger. I thought he was soo lovely looking. How amazing he was to have endured what he has done the last few years. Makes me cry to think his gone now.

Wasn't a particular fan of the superman films, but it is so sad when someone this young dies. I really feel for his family and hope that all the good work he started is able to continue.

just goes to show that sometimes it doesn't matter how much money, contacts and support you have, you can't beat the odds. When your time comes, it comes.

He fought incredibly hard in the last few years tho'

Such a shame as he actually seemed to be 'on the mend' recently. I'd heard that he was getting some feeling back in his arms and was able to come off his ventilator for quite long periods of time.

I have been so sad about this. Kerry just mentioned him in his debate on Wednesday. He had a tremendous impact on spinal cord injury awareness and he was so very brave.
