Legends

Last week Lauren Bacall balked at the interviewer's suggestion that Nicole Kidman was a Legend. Who do you consider to be a legendary actor or actress? Also, who you do you think will be considered a legend in the future?

I love Bette Davies. She was not a classical beauty which was refreshing because her talent as an actress was exceptional. I think her defining moment was "What ever happened to Baby Jane" with Joan Crawford. She was deliciously evil!!

I think Denzil Washington will be a future legend because of the depth he has brought to the eclectic roles he has undertaken and he is one of the few peerless actors around today.

John Wayne - I'm a sucker for cowboy films and he looked like my Dad.
Katherine and Audrey Hepburn, both incredibly stylish women in very different ways, must be the surname, I should change mine!

In the future, not sure, I don't think that many of today's stars have the charisma of the stars of the 40's and 50's. No, really can't think of anyone, but I'm sure that once I see what other people put, I will kick myself for not coming up with them.

Maybe Mel Gibson - he has taken a wider range of roles that any other 'star' I can think of, his Hamlet was very good, and he was wonderful in What Women Want, and lots inbetween (and he has nice eyes )

Agree with Bette Davis. Just love her films.
Would also consider Marilyn Monroe a legend.

Future legends .....hmmmmmm .....difficult, don't think Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise etc would ever qualify. Paul Newman probably.

I loved Katharine Hepburn and Alan Bates. Both hugely talented and charismatic. Errol Flynn...Vivien Leigh...

In the future? Certainly Mel Gibson. Kevin Spacey maybe.

Robert De Niro for sure, already a legend IMO
and I think Brad Pitt will be. On top of his pantwetting good looks he is accumulating a fine body of work and choosing challenging roles.

Also Sean Penn if he stays away from the I am Sam type of slush and Christopher Walken too for future legends.

I think Toni Collette is on the way, check out Japanese Story where she shows her full range.

Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck spring to mind as old time legends, did you see them together in the original Cape Fear?
