Sisters left in airport car park

"Two young sisters from East Yorkshire were left alone in an airport car park while members of their family tried to catch a holiday flight.
The girls, aged 11 and 12, from Goole, were found by police in a car at Stansted Airport, Essex, on Monday.

Their uncle and grandmother were cautioned, after being arrested on suspicion of child cruelty.

The uncle had asked the girls' mother to collect the children after finding their passports were due to expire.

Flight halted

Check-in staff at the airport had refused to let the girls board a flight to Corfu.

The girls' mother, who was unable to fetch her daughters immediately, telephoned a friend in Milton Keynes and arranged for them to be picked up.

The concerned friend called Essex Police, who found the girls in an unlocked Ford Focus, having already spent two hours alone.

Officers stopped the flight which the grandmother, aged 61, and uncle, 36, were preparing to catch, and arrested them.

I dread to think of the ordeal the young girls were going through

Essex Police spokesman

A police spokesman said the incident demonstrated how not to be a good parent or guardian.

"I do not know what was going through the minds of this grandmother and uncle on Monday afternoon.

"I dread to think of the ordeal the young girls were going through, seeing their close relatives disappear off on holiday and then having to be collected by a complete stranger.

"I hope it sends out a message to any other parent or guardian who is stupid enough to think about doing a similar thing," he said.

The spokesman said that after being cautioned the pair returned to the check-in desk to find out if they could continue with their holiday.

It is not known if the two eventually travelled to Corfu. "

Astounding. Can't believe parents still tried to go on holiday, or that they were just cautioned!!!
