I can't help but think that this is going to end in a war between Russia and the US.

The announced collaboration seemed to good to be true, I guess it was as it's lasted such a short time :(

I don't think so. This sort of thing has been going on for a long while. The US have been supporting the Jihadists who are against Assad. The US said this was a mistake, which is a good sign in that they say it was not done deliberately. Assad probably doesn't believe that but the fact that the US said it was a mistake means that it can't escalate.

A lot of these truces are called whenever the Jihadists are in trouble and are being beaten and when the backers of the Jihadists want them to regroup, so it is the same old thing.

It is unlikely that the US would want to escalate things before the election because most US voters probably don't support the idea of backing the Jihadists anyway and Trump would probably not either. So everything is probably on hold until after the election and if Trump wins, it is likely to be all over because Trump will probably act with Russia to sort the Jihadists and Al Qaeda, Isis and all the rest of the funded mercenaries out.

IIRC, the islamic Chetchens were responsible fir some pretty awful terror attacks in Moscow about ten years back... They took to setting of huge truck bombs under blocks of flats at night and collapsing the building whilst people were asleep...

Russia has no love of islamic extreemism.

claig · 17/09/2016 22:07

'IIRC, the islamic Chetchens were responsible fir some pretty awful terror attacks in Moscow about ten years back'

Yes, they were backed by some Saudi money etc, the usual thing, a bit like Isis etc, but Putin put them down brutally and now the Chechen leader who used to fight the Russians, supports Putin and runs Chechnya with an iron grip. Quite a few of Isis are now Chechens who still oppose Putin and the new Chechen leader.

Putin knows that if he doesn't sort the Jihadists out in Syria, then they will eventually be turned on Russia by their financial backers just as they were in Chechnya backed by the usual money from the usual sources who fund the whole ragbag of mercenaries, terrorists and extremists.

ProfessorPreciseaBug · 18/09/2016 08:03

What price an unholy alliance between Russia and America?

They have history of fighting a common enemy when needs must.

IPityThePontipines · 18/09/2016 12:16

Oh, so when the Russians are bombing civilians in a Syrian market, they're "bombing a common enemy"?

Hmm

claig · 18/09/2016 18:31

Good report on it on today's Channel 4 News. Channel 4 , like all the rest of the media, have to run their usual spin line, but the fact that they allowed the Syrian regime to get a word in, which is a very rare occurrence in the media, is a bit of a positive sign that the spin may be slowly ending.

IPityThePontipines · 19/09/2016 00:40

How is allowing a regime which has engaged in mass slaughter of it's own people, to mouth propaganda a good thing?

Over five years of atrocities and you are still defending them?

Tell me claig, how many children does the regime have to murder before you stop cheering them on?

claig · 19/09/2016 04:46

"Syrian Christians: 'Help us to stay - stop arming terrorists'

Christianity is being extinguished in the land of its birth and the West is to blame, say Syria's faithful "

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/11247798/Syrian-Christians-Help-us-to-stay-stop-arming-terrorists.html

One day the lies and spin of the media, the sycophancy of the liars who allow the truth to be concealed will end. One day the truth will be revealed and those who funded and supported and lied and stood back and did nothing while 5 years of suffering happened will be exposed just like happened when those who destroyed Libya and Iraq were finally exposed.

One day the suffering will end and those who caused it will be revealed.

One day the liars in the media will end their lies and blame the true culprits for this tragedy that has lasted 5 years, just like happened over Libya and Iraq.

Maybe Corbyn will reveal the truth, just like he did over Iraq. Maybe that is why they don't want him in charge.

WinchesterWoman · 19/09/2016 05:11

Us wants rid of Assad to keep Israel happy over the Iran deal. Nothing noble about their intentions.

IPityThePontipines · 19/09/2016 23:03

Claig - are you accusing the refugees who have fled Assad's brutality of lying? Are you accusing the people of Aleppo of lying?

11 million have fled, nearly half a million are dead, the vast majority at the hands of Assad.

Yet you accuse others of lying.

My sister in law is living in fear of her eldest son being abducted and forced to fight in the Syrian army.

He's 13 years old.

Still you defend Assad.

claig · 19/09/2016 23:22

Yes, I prefer that Asaad defeats Isis and all the rest of the terrorists and reinstates his secular regime that protects Christians, Jews, Druze, Shia and Sunni Muslims.

'Are you accusing the people of Aleppo of lying?'

I am not accusing them of lying. Lot of them are being protected by Assad's Syrian Army.

'11 million have fled, nearly half a million are dead, the vast majority at the hands of Assad. '

Of course they have fled because they can't survive in a war zone with no work and no money and a non-functioning economy and of the 500,000 dead, nearly half are Syrian Army soldiers who have had to be drafted to fight the Western and Saudi backed Jihadists and assorted terrorists from countries all over the world.

claig · 19/09/2016 23:28

'Most Syrians back President Assad, but you'd never know from western media '

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/jan/17/syrians-support-assad-western-propaganda

When Trump exposes the truth about what has been happening and who backed and supported it and who profited from pay for play etc, then the lying media and the lying sycophants who have spread misinformation on this tragedy and its causes will also be exposed for the propagandists and deliberate liars that they were.

claig · 19/09/2016 23:30

Just like with Libya and Iraq, the liars will all be exposed eventually and the world will learn the truth about what these people do and how they lie.

From the left wing UK The Canary website

"WikiLeaks founder Assange accuses Clinton of fuelling jihadism in Syria
...
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange recently spoke about Hillary Clinton’s time as Secretary of State. What he said put the Democratic candidate for the US presidency at the heart of the mess currently engulfing Libya and Syria.
...
Now, on the verge of releasing highly sensitive government emails demonstrating the part she played in arming anti-Assad jihadis in Syria, Assange told Democracy Now!:

‘the disastrous, absolutely disastrous intervention in Libya, the destruction of the Gaddafi government, which led to the occupation of ISIS of large segments of that country, weapons flows going over to Syria, being pushed by Hillary Clinton, into jihadists within Syria, including ISIS, that’s there in those emails.
...
There were apparently US plans to destabilise Syria from at least 2006 – when George W. Bush’s disastrous ‘war on terror’ was still in full flow. The only difference in strategy under the Obama administration was that more invasions like Afghanistan and Iraq were completely out of the question, so Washington had to rely heavily on its warmongering chauvinist allies in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar to do most of the leg work in Syria.

And this is precisely why jihadi gangs like Daesh (Isis/Isil) and Jabhat al-Nusra – which have ideological and funding links to the US allies mentioned above – soon came to dominate the anti-Assad opposition (of which around 60% is currently thought to have similar extremist views to Daesh)."

IPityThePontipines · 20/09/2016 07:09

You're defending a regime who just bombed an aid convoy.

claig · 20/09/2016 08:24

The UN doesn't know who bombed the aid convoy. The information we have is from the bloke living in a house in Coventry with the grand title of The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"The United Nations confirmed the convoy was hit but gave no details on who carried out the attack or how many died as world leaders converged on New York for their annual U.N. gathering under the shadow of fresh violence in the Syrian civil war.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said the attacks were carried out by either Syrian or Russian aircraft, adding that there had been 35 strikes in and around Aleppo since the truce ended."

Claig has something. There are memos by aide Jake Sullivan.

Claig what do you know about chemical weapons sent to the battle arena by the US?

claig · 20/09/2016 11:27

'Claig what do you know about chemical weapons sent to the battle arena by the US?'

I don't know anything about that. But I don't believe many of the media reports about Assad's chemical weapons attacks. Everytime the Jihadis are losing, the media seems to come out with a chemical weapon attack report.

WinchesterWoman · 20/09/2016 11:42

Ok I'll try to find some links.

WinchesterWoman · 20/09/2016 11:50

chemical attacks 'staged'

Hillary 'approved Sarin to Syria'

These are biased think tanks but it's what I could find in five minutes. It's not actually where I read it though. I'll have to have another loo later.

Immigration is not the main reason that Donald Trump makes the establishment nervous. Russia is the reason the globalists are scared. The globalist narrative depends on Russia as a bogeyman. The 'threat' is talked up time after time. It was used to try to get people to vote Remain. The Council of Foreign Relations is big on the Russian 'threat'.

Trump endangers that position.

claig · 20/09/2016 12:16

Thanks for the excellent links. Seymour Hersh is brilliant, one of the best journalists in the world. Shame the BBC don't interview him more.

"Seymour Hersh Says Hillary Approved Sending Libya’s Sarin to Syrian Rebels

The great investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, in two previous articles in the London Review of Books («Whose Sarin?» and «The Red Line and the Rat Line») has reported that the Obama Administration falsely blamed the government of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad for the sarin gas attack that Obama was trying to use as an excuse to invade Syria; and Hersh pointed to a report from British intelligence saying that the sarin that was used didn’t come from Assad’s stockpiles. Hersh also said that a secret agreement in 2012 was reached between the Obama Administration and the leaders of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, to set up a sarin gas attack and blame it on Assad so that the US could invade and overthrow Assad."

www.strategic-culture.org/news/2016/04/28/seymour-hersh-hillary-approved-sending-libya-sarin-syrian-rebels.html

'The globalist narrative depends on Russia as a bogeyman'

Absolutely. Trump threatens all the plans of the Dr Strangeloves and the Wall Street billionaires who control them. Trump offers peace and that puts a spanner in their works.

pepperpot99 · 20/09/2016 12:21

Good God. I never thought I would see the day when someone openly defended Bashar Al-Assad. On Mumsnet Shock. And also said "Trump offers peace".

pepperpot99 · 20/09/2016 12:22

Do you also think that 9/11 was a US conspiracy Claig ? Hmm

claig · 20/09/2016 12:28

I think when Trump wins lots of truths about what happened in Syria and what happened on 911 will be revealed as Trump says he will reopen the 911 enquiry.

claig · 20/09/2016 12:33

' And also said "Trump offers peace".'

Here is an article by former Republican Presidential candidate, Pat Buchanan

"Is Trump the Peace Candidate?"
