Accident of sorts at Disney in Florida, may be upsetting

A two year old was dragged into the lagoon by an alligator a few hours ago and hasn't been seen since.

It's so awful I feel like I can't breathe. I cannot imagine how scared he/she was and what the parents are feeling.

Accounts vary but apparently they were sitting on the beach either waiting for fireworks or having movie night. It's just too awful. I'm sure it was supposed to be a wonderful trip and now this.

I know the chances that child will be found alive are almost nothing, but I am hoping against hope that he or she is. I just cannot imagine.

Do you have a news link please? I've looked on sky and bbc and can't see anything.

here

This report says the little one is a boy. The other reports I'd read weren't sure.

It's too awful :( And of course wankers already coming out of the woodwork to say "everyone knows you don't go by the water in Florida" oh do they know that?! I'm American but live very far north. I can tell you what to do if you see a bear, but I know nothing about alligators. This is a DISNEY RESORT. Who would think you couldn't sit by the beach and wait for the fireworks? People disgust me sometimes. :(

Can't paste a link but The Guardian are running it. Plus lots of US local news sites. Search Disneyworld Alligator. No eye witnesses to the incident, the poor child is missing. Last seen on the beach.

I can't even begin to imagine how the parents must be feeling, that poor little mite 😢😢

Keeping everything crossed he is found safe and sound very soon

How awful, but if there are no eye witnesses why do they think that an alligator has dragged him into the water?

I've read unverified reports that the father went in after the child but couldn't get him away. That's unconfirmed though.

You know how sometimes people make up a big story for fame or attention or so they can sue? Usually I hate those people but God that'd be nice if it were the case here. I have a little one about that age and it just doesn't bear thinking about.

Bloody hell thats awful!!! I guess it's just the alligator doing what comes naturally but still it is a Tragedy - the poor family

I've heard they're awful from people who live there. They can hide in a foot of water and are very fast and very vicious. They get into family pools sometimes apparently!

I know people who say they won't walk their dogs near bodies of water, etc. How terrible.

More info

Nebraska is quite a long way from Florida. This would have been a huge, special trip for them. God this is heartbreaking!

Was just watching on GMB, thinking why on earth would you go into the water but apparently as this was in a Disney hotel etc, they are encouraged to use the lagoon! Hate to say it but there is very little point of still searching

Why are there alligators in a Disney resort??? Confused awful story!

The lagoon is full of alligators, I remember one of the cast members tell me on the boat across the lagoon. I'm surprised there isn't some sort of barrier between the beach area and the water.

Bendy
They are everywhere. They make their way to water, as a pp said, people find them in their swimming pools. I've seen one on the side of a road out there. Apparently they're really overrun with them.

I'm so shocked this could happen. It just looks like a beach by an hotel. I'm guessing no one would anticipate this at all. That poor poor family.

What a shocking story, parents apparently went in afterwards to try get the child but the alligator is obviously much stronger and quicker.
Even if they do manage to find the toddler there is no way he can be alive. Desperately sad, one moment and their lives will never be the same again. SadSad

That's just awful. From what I know Disney do their best to keep alligators out of their waterways, and when they find them they catch them and relocate them, but it's not like it's a sealed environment so sadly one could easily have got in.

You would think there would be some kind of barrier. It's hard to comment on why and what ifs because not much information is known yet but it does beg the question how did this happen?!
