I think they must be extremely messed up and confused kids. I can't imagine what their motive was but they need help in any case.

BMW6 Tue 07-Jun-16 17:58:51

I don't want to imagine what their motives were...........
I can't imagine the hell that the poor mother went through when her child was abducted, so I have zero concern for the abductees. Flame away.

Awful stuff. So pleased that cctv was able to track/follow and find the tot in such a short amount of time. I know the area really well and Northumberland St is often heaving so difficult to spot anyone

CurlyWurlyCatcher Tue 07-Jun-16 18:49:55

I read in an article earlier that the two girls had recently been googling 'child rape' and similar phrases, which doesn't necessarily prove anything but it's a strange coincidence if the two aren't linked. It wasn't the first time they tried to kidnap a child apparently.

Arfarfanarf Tue 07-Jun-16 18:56:14

Considering what they had googled prior to this i shudder to think and i seriously hope they get a LOT of help in a specialist setting

What they were doing internet searches for is deeply disturbing and i think a connection cannot and must not be ruled out.

Hopefully they will be helped.

I think they are just messed up teenagers who need help , Thank god theyfound the child before anything bad happened, and on another note, how the hell did I miss this in the news or was it not covered at the time?

sidsgranny Tue 07-Jun-16 19:08:26

I think what they'd googled says it all.

I'm sure lots of do gooders will say that they can be helped but frankly they are evil and will no doubt be "punished", released into society and will go on to commit even greater crimes. Another child/parent will suffer at the hands of this pair due to our society's soft attitude to serious crime.

imwithspud Tue 07-Jun-16 19:14:53

I dread to think.

Thank god they caught them in time.

Samcro Tue 07-Jun-16 19:18:32

Thank god they were caught and the child was ok
Sick pair of evil ...
Have no sympathy for them

DiggersRest Tue 07-Jun-16 19:22:30

Agree, some people, regardless of age, are evil. These two are just that.

pensivepolly Tue 07-Jun-16 19:25:27

I immediately thought of James Bulger as well.

Most 13 year olds aren't even aware of child rape unless they have some experience of it. We don't know what these children's lives were like, but 'evil' doesn't usually happen in a vacuum.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries Tue 07-Jun-16 19:44:59

I'm normally one of those super-softy liberal types and thoroughly believe that prison should be about rehabilitation, education and release.

There are some cases, however, where I think rehabilitation will never be possible and release should never be considered. Right now, I'm inclined to think that this is one of them. There's got to be something deeply disturbed about both of them - perhaps not their fault, but still leading them to make terrible, dangerous decisions meaning it would be dangerous to release them.

StealthPolarBear Tue 07-Jun-16 19:47:01

They must be seriously disturbed. I'm really sorry for whatever has led to this being their lives ,as well as feeling more sorry for the boy and his parents.
They got him quite a distance away. It was covered in the news at the time.

AnchorDownDeepBreath Tue 07-Jun-16 19:47:16

I'm surprised that the charge was dropped from kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence to just kidnap. That feels rather weaker.

I hope that they aren't able to hurt anyone else. Whether that's through being locked away, or rehabilitation, or whatever. Whatever the choice is, we need to be sure.

SolomanDaisy Tue 07-Jun-16 19:48:57

They're young girls. Most young perpetrators of sexual abuse have themselves been victims of sexual abuse. Ridiculous to condemn children this young as 'evil' when you have no idea what has happened to them.

I can't fathom this one out.
Do you think one girl was a stronger character and talked the other one into going along with it? How can 2 friends come up with this sort of vile idea and both be in agreement? I don't think I'm explaining myself very well but it totally baffles me.

Don't be ludicrous. I was a privileged, well adjusted, non-abused and normal kid and even I was aware of rape and child abuse at 13. And this was in the 90s before the Internet.

CremeEggThief Tue 07-Jun-16 20:03:33

I wonder if an adult is somewhere in the background, grooming and manipulating these girls.sad That hour and forty five minutes must have been unimaginable torture for the poor mother of the child. Thank goodness they were found, although even then, long lasting harm has been caused to an innocent family, by two girls who have been harmed themselves.
