Radio 4 did an excellent report this morning with the live broadcasts being re-played. on it a doctor spoke about the fact that he was in the ground as a supporter he had tried to help people but they didn't have a defibrillator and also that the oxygen cylinder they gave him was empty. it was a really passionate speech from a man who minutes ago had left the stadium. why did no one listen to this sort of evidence years ago? I had to stop driving it was so moving. I hope lessons are learned.

My darling dad, his 2 brothers and my cousin were there that day. They came home physically intact, but were never emotionally the same ever again.

My dad died 7 weeks ago. He never, ever got over that day. How sad he didn't live to see justice done.

JFT96.

I have such heartfelt admiration for the families - I too shed a tear on the train when I read the news. May they now find some peace and comfort in what they have achieved although the hole in their hearts will never be filled

About time. The clip of the families singing you never walk alone had me in tears. Radio city presenter was obviously crying when doing the lunchtime report.

Just a shame it has taken so long

I've just been on the BBC website looking at the photographs and names of some of the victims. So many 14 year olds - same age as my elder dd Sad. And a 10 year old as well. Such a terrible thing.

Brilliant to see the families finally getting acknowledgement that the full fault lay with the authorities and not with the victims. Brilliant.

It will be fascinating to see what was said about this by the government in private at the time, when the 1989 files from the Prime Minister's Office get released next year.

whoever said the victims were to blame?

I've never been to a football match, but I sincerely hope that the crowd management, stadium design and procedure lessons have been learned long before this.

special, from the 1990 Taylor report via Wikipedia: the police tried in the first instance to blame the fans.

It is a matter of regret that at the hearing, and in their submissions, the South Yorkshire Police were not prepared to concede they were in any respect at fault in what occurred. ... [T]he police case was to blame the fans for being late and drunk, and to blame the Club for failing to monitor the pens.

special - the Sun for a start. Many newsagents in Liverpool and surrounding areas haven't stocked it since.

A good verdict.

specialsubject if you go onto the Guardian website and watch their "Hillsborough - anatomy of a disaster" short film you will see exactly how the police and The Sun managed to peddle a filthy lie which blamed drunken fans on the deaths. It is an absolute disgrace.
