The live in a prison, effectively, their life choices are extremely limited from day one. I can't see any reason to envy them at all, and you do sound very jealous.

I think it's safe to say that 99.9% of people would choose to live in taxpayer funded mansions with servants - however 'tough' - rather than have to work hard all our lives to pay the bills.
