New thread again.

Thread 1 - started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Thread 2 - in which we mainly discussed Operation Protective Edge.

Thread 3 - in which we continued to discuss Operation Protective Edge, the wider conflict and international involvement.

Thread 4 - in which Operation Protective Edge was examined further and we looked at the different views from inside Israel and the international community.

Another reminder of the Mumsnet Talk Guidelines.

Just marking my place. I need to feel I am doing something even if it isn't massive in the grand scheme of things.

I'm boycotting Israeli products & barcodes, posting sources of interest/proof/news about the conflict on my personal fB doing my own research and following this thread is helping me.

I can't live having this happened in my lifetime and just have it all happen in the background whilst I carried on with my lovely, happy, safe fulfilling life.

Night all, how lovely would it be to wake up and for there to be peace on both sides.

Know exactly what Goldvelvet means. It feels so wrong to carry on. I have a great fear that when Israel does finally stop the pounding, all eyes will turn away from Gaza, probably to the next round of atrocities in Ukraine/Syria etc. I can envisage the survivors huddled in the rubble come January in makeshift homes, watered by tankers that the Israelis magnanimously allow in once a week - if they're good enough. Good that Paul Mason has identified they already have the stoicism, patience and resilience they will need.

WRT doing something, however miniscule, I said I was going to put up some ribbons in memory of the murdered kids. Got the first few up today (sorry 'bout the photo quality). Have given myself a real labour of love if the plan to do one for each is to be fulfilled. 10 down today, so quite a few more to go. Fortunately, seems there haven't been quite so many slaughtered today. (How 'very dare' Cameron use that word - if there's a slaughter, then there's also a slaughterer! Not to mention the whole array of governments letting them get away with it.)

QN that is so lovely. I want to join in too. I cant sew though! If i could get hold of small palestinian flags then i would be more than willing to walk around and put them up for people to see and remember. Going to do a web search and see if i can find sone mini flags online.

Thank you for your effort for Gaza. Flowers

Thx, Yruapita. Doesn't have to be flags. You could use ribbons in the colours of the Palestinian flag or just print onto card or paper and laminate it like I did with the labels. It would be fantastic if all parks, bus stops, shopping centres etc were festooned. An outpouring like we had after Diana or Hillsborough, or like the flowers in the Netherlands when the plane went down. Hope it catches on.

OneStepCloser- it's extraordinary living in the area and coming across the tributes- I found one in the woods where I walk the dog yesterday. Ds put his on the wall outside his old primary school. And it's spreading. Over a 1000 members (I think) in a week. It's certainly got people in the town talking.

Huge contradiction. Just saw Mark Regev on Al Jazeera talking about the ceasefire, very determinedly making the point that the same deal was on the table three weeks ago, ie Hamas could have taken the deal then and prevented further loss of life.
But they've also claimed repeatedly in the the last couple of weeks that the mission was to destroy the 'terror tunnels' which they are only now completing.
So which is it? Can't be both!

Or if you feel the flags are a bit "political" (I know some do) you can follow my link to a different way of remembering and awareness raising.

Thanks for keeping the thread going. I have nothing to add at the moment except that I am disgusted and angry that the slaughter and war crimes are still going on and the world powers still continue to stand back and allow it.
I see there's another ceasefire. Let's see if this ones honoured.
It's so sad reading today that there is nowhere for the Palestinians to bury their loved ones. There are no spaces in the morgues either so they're putting children in ice cream and food freezers. So wrong and needless.

Dear god, just seen there's been a Bomb Gaza game in the Google play store, fortunately now removed, but not before 1000 people downloaded it. Per C4 news.

Very interesting Chipstick "I can no longer support the governments policy on Gaza"

Not someone I had a lot of time for, but well done Baroness for living by your principals.
