Parents 'devastated' by baby death
The parents of an eight-month-old baby who died after being critically injured at a nursery have spoken of their devastation.
Debra and Christopher Lindsay's son Cameron died following an incident at the Sticky Fingers Day Nursery in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, shortly after 11am on Monday, West Mercia Police said.
A force spokesman said he could not elaborate on the circumstances in which Cameron sustained the injuries but confirmed that the death was being treating as unexplained.
A post-mortem examination conducted yesterday concluded that the cause of death was asphyxiation.
Cameron, from Bromsgrove, was taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and was later transferred to Birmingham Children's Hospital, where he died at 5pm on Tuesday.
The spokesman said staff at the Highfield Road nursery, which has been closed by its owner while investigations continue, were being voluntarily interviewed.
In a statement released through police, Mr and Mrs Lindsay said: "Cameron's death has left us devastated and, as a family, we are trying to come to terms with the loss of our beautiful baby boy.
"We are drawing support at this time from our family and friends and we would appreciate it if our privacy is respected.
"The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, and Birmingham Children's Hospital for all their care and support."
An inquest into Cameron's death is due to open on April 6
