Thank you for organising the new thread Standwell.
I had some disturbing dreams last night which I think were prompted by considering matters raised on this thread.

Anyone whose work involves dealing with these problems, well it must be so incredibly hard to cope.
I suppose that contributes to the difficulty in bringing people to justice..you'd have to be very careful not to sacrifice your own mental health?

Is this the best place for it?

Very little traffic?

I mentioned the effect of open borders on the last thread, meaning criminals can move children about willy nilly with NO police force to monitor them or bring them to justice as each police force has its own jurisdictions etc...

does no one else feel we need to close borders?

watchtower · 21/07/2014 13:33

Where else could we put the thread though?

Not in chat, it'll disappear which would probably be quite convenient for MNHQ given their silence on the matter

Report
SweetSummerSweetPea · 21/07/2014 13:35

silence from MNHQ is good surely, other threads like this are closed down...

well perhaps here then but many dont look in news...

In terms of open borders, i don't think they should be necessarily be closed, but with a a European government I find it astonishing that they don't have some sort of task force on cross border crime of this nature.

Last I checked MNHQ been asked directly if we could have a MN campaign on this and had stayed utterly silent. Don't know if that's changed.

Start a new thread then sweetsummersweetpea - if you can think of somewhere suitable with lots of traffic where it won't self combust after 90 days.

It's more about silence on the request to have a web chat or an MN stance on the issues, rather than this thread Sweet.

There are a couple of threads requesting this, but they seem to be ignored.

suzanne i agree. That's the problem isn't it. People were saying last night, to step away if you are feeling disturbed...do something light hearted.

but people have to stay engage with the subject to get anything done. And at the moment, there aren't enough people that do that.

my full respect to Bill and Chris (am giving up, with their family names!)

Because a few have mentioned it, here's the link to the campaign page: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_campaigns/2129828-A-truly-independent-enquiry-into-child-sex-abuse?msgid=48410756 hopefully if enough people support it MNHQ might be forced to acknowledge it.

well its something i would have got right BEFORE opening borders? i\ just dont understand it.

i had no idea mnhq had been asked to comment, start this and that.

as a parenting website its amazing but then - there was not much response from people on MN to the meninijitus jab either

I've read so many links including the ones about Belgium and Dutroux.

Its shocking when you see the similarities in what their officials said 20 years ago and what ours are saying now. Maybe those in power have a standard protocol script for this sort of thing until a bigger story comes along and takes the headlines.

I would like Mumsnet HQ to take notice of this massive issue

I too would like MNet to take notice- just as much notice as the 'Bounty Rep on the wards' issue

The silence from the press over this is quite disconcerting. There is clearly a 'puppet master' quite high up somewhere.

What is the probability of a child being abused if they are in care? Social services are a bit defunct in terms of child protection. You cant be removing a child from its parents to protect the child, if there is a real and considerable risk of abuse/trafficking whilst in care. They have to at least consider that risk formally now??

I think the police have been working across borders - there has always been Interpol and the organised crime organisations of all coutries work across borders. The recent 600 arrests came with the co-operation of organisations in the US who have shared internet data.

The trouble with Europe is that it has pandered to liberal thinking for a long time. Everyone loves liberalism because it somehow means freedom but it also means that people abuse that freedom.

I think the proliferation of sexual depravity (no other way to describe it) is directly due to lack of controls of the internet and libertarian laws in some countries about prostitution. The Dutch and Germans are particularly complacent about the thin line between sexual liberty and abuse.

We can rail against the handful, posibly dozens of high profile cases but at the end of the day there will be thousands of 'ordinary' Joe Public perpetrators for each one of these high profile men.

I wonder about the motivation of posters like you posting on this thread unrealhousewife. This thread is about a Westminster paedophile ring. You seem to be trying to minimise the seriousness of it. Please don't try to draw attention from the seriousness of people that ran the country raping and abusing children. We shouldn't stop 'railing' against it. It could still be going on.

Then you're trying to tell us that we should have less freedom. Because that'll stop 'em eh? The laws says it is illegal to abuse and rape children. There is no freedom to do it so which freedom are people abusing? People are breaking the law, simple, if they rape and abuse children.

This was all going on before the internet was even around.

OK whatever scandip I shall post elsewhere about the massive surge in abuse in recent years and its causes. It is a different subject and I do keep coming back to it which is probably unhelpful.

The politicians are the tip of the iceberg that's all. They are all as bad as each other, they are all covering up, protecting each other, using children in care, using disabled children or any other vulnerable person they feel like using.

But perhaps that's not to be discussed here and I shall leave this thread because it's going round in circles and makes me feel quite powerless and frustrated. I feel slightly less dejected when I am able to discuss the causes of abuse. Being a celebrity or a politician has very little to do with it and I think focussing on this takes the focus away from the suffering of all those who have experienced abuse at the hands of 'ordinary' people.

I hope you understand but I shall now hide this thread.

Unrealhousewife, sorry for being really harsh. It isn't up to me what is discussed here. I think I'm maybe letting my feelings get the better of me and I am sorry for being obnoxious. It is a discussion and you have the right to air your opinions.

You see, I actually think it could bring attention to the many people abused by ordinary people. Victims of the famous and the ordinary have been ignored for years.

I am sorry for being so rude to you. It was uncalled for. These issues will never be addressed if people shout each other down, which I realise is what I have done.
