i keep reading about these celeb mums who seemingly ping back into shape within a few days after childbirth. Now I'm no believer in miracles and the reason is that some including Gwyneth Paltrow and Vic Reeves wife (can't remember her name) have apparently used post natal corsets/girdles. Now as I still looked preganant a good 6 mnths after my last little arrival i am desperate to find out more and not having much look. Are there any clued up mums out there who can help??

i know that in my nans day they used to advise you wear a girdle for the first 6 months after having a baby.

no idea as to grandad mentioned it once after i had my DS.

it's to put your ribcage back into 'shape'
read about this a few weeks ago
load of tosh I think - you have to wear one all the time and then change the size to accomodate your shrinking figure. Quite expensive
plus the celebs have all the time in the world and money to devote to their post baby pound shedding

I was advised to wear one of these to help persuade my stomach muscles back together. Apparently they're very common on the continent.
I found mine hot, uncomfortable and ultimately very annoying. Do lots of Pilates instead!

thanks - Bottersnike can i just ask please where you got yours from?

not meaning to be unhelpful - but I think at 6 months post birth the corset wont bind or encourage muscles together - it really needs to be done post birth

I can see that they would be useful if you had to go to a premier and be photographed and new that everybody would be commenting on your postnatal figure. However, I think that Gwyneth Paltrow also probably has a personal trainer, chef etc. I agree with bottersnike - regular pilates would do you much more good.

Post Natal Girdle
After the birth of my two children I wore Post natal girdles for 2/3 months. I got back to my shape in both ocasions.
I bought the bodyshapers from Holistic Garments, they specialise in post surgery compression garments but also have post natal garments.
Good luck

my sister used to work with a lady who had 10 children (going back years here) she always wore a girdle after each baby and apparently you couldnt tell she'd had so many kids! I'm thinking of getting one too as although I lost the weight with my previous two - my hips and ribs never returned to how they were before - got to be worth a try!

Are these corsets tight between the legs as well? IIRC, I couldn't even wear panties for weeks after DD's birth.

I honestly pinged back to skinny after my first three babies. No corset neccessary. However, after the fourth, things be looking a bit saggy. There's plenty of corsetry available online.

Google 'waist cincher' or 'underbust corset'

or just go here

Gowri Motha did a girdle for Agent Provocateur, I think. One of my classic half-stories (always forget the other half, but why let truth get in the way of a good yarn) but she wrote that it was a tradition in the indian subcontinent to 'bind' the monther to help realign body post natally. So the residents of St John's Wood have now adopted it. I'm sure Gwynie's jelly belly had nothing to do with it
