He's being questioned about Jean McConville.

Hope he is charged. Such a horrible man.

Actually he hasn't been arrested yet unfortunately apparently he went in voluntarily to discuss the case

BBC News NI are saying he is being held! The older man who has been charged has obviously talked.

Top story on the BBC is that he's been arrested.

Anyone know what was agreed under Good Friday agreement? Will he be let off under this?

ThePigOfHappiness · 30/04/2014 21:25

Oh good, RTE clearly behind with news as per. My mistake coco :)

ginmakesitallok · 30/04/2014 21:26

Don't think the good Friday agreement will cover this, think it only covered people who were currently serving sentences?

It was 42 years ago so the likely hood of their being enough evidence to convict is slim, but fingers crossed!

Wow.

I honestly thought the evil bastard was immune to the laws that apply to civilized society.

Late, but welcome.

It doesn't seem to say what offence he has been arrested for. Anyone seen anything specific?

Hope the truth will prevrail...

FFS, she brought a glass of water to an injured fellow human being!

Feel so sorry for her children and family..

BBC just says "in connection with" the murder.

I'm glad - he and McGuinness have never been sufficiently challenged on their pasts, at least not by the courts. Good point about the lack of evidence at this stage, though.

A lot of talk in Ireland around the timing of this considering elections. Sinn Fein are increasingly popular here atm :(

Such a horrific case. Really hope there can be some justice for her family.

Qui bono?

I had an interesting conversation with someone intimately connected with this whole saga last week: apparently, the tapes can only be treated as hearsay evidence in court.

No sympathy whatsoever for Adams - hateful man - and much sympathy for the bereaved and broken McConville family, but this whole saga is politically very strange and raises a lot of troubling issues around academic freedom.

Couldn't give a shit about the timing.

He is a vile, evil, odious man. He ordered or knew about killings, maimings and all kinds of other nastiness.

I hope he rots.

He won't, he's a snake and will wriggle out of this, but I can have my brief moment of hope.

Anyone else see him on the BBC special on The Disappeared around November time? He'll be doing exactly the same act now, up in Antrim Police Station. Sitting back, smacking his lips over those ridiculous veneers, calling the investigating officers by their first names and saying just enough to appear co-operative, but nothing that could implicate him in any way. He'll be well briefed by his legal representative, and he's also an intelligent man. All in, he'll be sticking to the same routine of lies, mistruths and corruption that he's been accusing the British Government of for the last forty years.

I wouldn't dare suggest that they could try to make him talk using the same means as the IRA tried on Mrs McConville, because that would be bloody barbaric. Most people in Northern Ireland can see that now.

RyvitaDolce · 30/04/2014 22:24

Good.

He will wriggle out of it but it will be bad for sinn fein. It'll remind people who forget or dont want to see.
