It's absolutely appalling she's been allowed to remain in her post if it was some one committing benefit fraud they would have the book thrown at them. To add insult to injury this 'honorable' member of our Government has sold the house for which she scammed the mortgage payments for a huge profit - all at our expense. Her 'apology' was derisory. She's a disgrace and Cameron is a weak and duplicitous arse.

I haven’t really followed this story until I saw the Daily Politics today and it does look a niffy, especially the accusation re her position looking into press control and calls to the Telegraph .

As the parliamentary enquiry was cross party, it doesn’t immediately look to be a Tory stitch up re one of their own, so I wonder if being a woman was a major influence, as male politicians don’t do so well.

What would happen to a "benefit scrounger" who fiddled £45k, repaid £5k, and made a 31-second apology? Or any other employee who fiddled their expenses in the same way? Their employer (us) would not be waiting for them to resign or to reach the end of their contract term. They would be escorted off the premises with a bin-bag for their personal posessions.

This isn't a party political issue for me (and I don't bat for any political side). This is about our entire political class and how poorly we continue to be served by them. Either Miller is so arrogant and entitled she really can't see what she has done wrong, or she has zero integrity
(otherwise she'd resign). And a committee of her 'peers' has colluded in letting her off. MPs are still effectively policing themselves.

Some MPs have gone to prison for fiddling less, and I still can't under stand how David Laws got away with a slap on the wrist because he was too 'embarrassed' to say he was gay so claimed rent for a room in his partner's property. Also how could Maria Miller say she needed a 2nd home in Wimbledon and a constituency home in Basingstoke? Don't any of the regulators ever look at a map or a railway timetable?

She's my bloody MP . No, I've never voted for her. We were pen pals when I was trying to stop them bringing charges in for the CSA, she couldn't give the shinest shit about anyone vulnerable or less fortunate than her.

Entitled and smug sums her up. Sadly I don't have any confidence local. voters will get rid of her next year.

Is there a petition anywhere for her removal? I would sign it. It absolutely outrages me that after all the callous financial initiatives she has fronted that have pushed so many vulnerable disabled people into terrible lives (such as deaf and blind people who no longer have the tiny number of hours funded for specially trained communicator guides to give them some independence) she has been helping herself lavishly to funds to improve her own lifestyle. I would like to support any campaign to remove her from position.

Yet another example of Cameron's utter stupidity. He must surely know that the principal perception of his government is that its priority is to benefit its members and its members' friends. When presented with the opportunity to give the lie to that, he chooses instead to reinforce it. The man really is not or ever has been fit to be in government, let alone to be Prime Minister.

I think it isn't so much the expenses scandal that has angered people this time. After all, that's fairly old news now and it seems MPs from all sides were caught out.

It's the fact that she was ordered to repay around £45,000 of that money and this was over-ruled by a committee of MPs.

That, added to the 30 second apology that said nothing she wasn't forced to say, is what makes this look so bad.
If she were truly trying to make amends, she'd be voluntarily paying back the original sum at the very least.

If she has any integrity, she'd resign. I'm disgusted to see my MP leaping up to sit with her while she grudgingly went through the motions the other day.
