Morning sickness regulates diet

here

"Morning sickness might have evolved to ensure pregnant women do not digest too much unhealthy food, say scientists.

They found evidence that nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is associated with high intake of sugar, alcohol, oils and meat. "

What do you think? Morning sickness (well, all day sickness) put me off eating pretty much everything in thse first few months.

hmm, maybe.

can't say its exactly putting me off chocolate...

though it would be comforting to know there is a reason

I think they are probably talking through their backsides to be honest!

I had nausea with DD and nausea and vomiting with DS (all day and night in both cases for about 4 months) -no food made it worse and no food made it better.

I also went off alcohol before even realising I was pregnant (not that I drank often anyway) and I'm vegi so the meat and alcohol theory goes out the window somewhat.

I went off milk - that can't be a good thing can it. I still managed milk tray and dairy milk though!

Morning sickness meant i ate nothing but crisps and ice lollies for 3 months. I wouldn't call it a very regulated diet, but what do I know......

Well I ended up on a drip and couldn't even keep water down! But of course, all the unhealthy fat and stuff in water

I have seen stuff in the past that nausea is designed to stop ingestion of the foods that can commonlly lead to poisoning (eg meats, shellfish) and that I get, but there's such a difference between nausea and the much more severe variants that can occur, and the picture is far more complex. Tiredness is upposed to be linked in, and wasn't there a tudy that brought in B12 deficiency? And of course high HCG levels are a huge factor (especially with multiples)

I think that the experiences of mazzystar and bobbynog just prove that chocolate is indeed one of the key healthy food groups.

The only thing that got me through nine months of constant hurling (sorry if tmi)was mini marsbars - great for stopping the nausea. I didn't like them before pregnancy and would say that I had had a very healthy diet.
Can't even look at a mini marsbar now....

I take this study with a pinch of salt....
