Fucking hell. That's horrific. I can't imagine how they're going to be able to rebuild lives after that. Especially the 30 year old Hmm

It's on the news now

I don't believe it. I don't see how it's possible to live undetected for 30 years For instance, not to have needed any medical treatment whatsoever in 30 years?

It's awful.

The youngest one was described as having been 'born in to slavery' Shock

Sad

There is so much they aren't saying and that we may never know about this case.

It's just mind-boggling that this could happen.

It's a horrendous story. The charity that helped and the police did a fantastic job by the sounds of it.

i don't think hostage is the right word.

all very strange. it seems the women were meeting with the charity having watched a documentary on tv about it, and left for good about a month ago. it's taken until now to arrest the couple who kept them there. although the younger lady may have always been there, they do not suspect sexual abuse of any of them.

that's my interpretation anyway. so strange.

It beggars belief.

Those poor women. I wish them all the strength they can muster to come to terms with this.

I don't understand how 3 women can be hidden from society for that long.

I can understand the neighbours not realising if none of the women were ever allowed out, but what about council administration, etc.
Did that house never need anything doing to it in 30 years that would bring workmen (electrician, plumber etc.) in there??

How is it possible to hide 3 women from beauracracy(sp?) for 30 years?! Never had to go to the doctor? dentist?

I read... They saw a tv feature about forced ? false marriage which inspired one of them (probably the 30yo) to phone a charity about their plight. Then it took a few weeks of phone calls before they voluntarily left the house.
Only the 30yo can be described as British. I wonder which other woman is her mother & what nationality the slavers are (not British, it's been said).

It's a weird good news story, I wonder if other people held captive will hear about it & find courage to plan escape.

Absolutely amazing that they managed to make contact with that charity.

After those spate of cases came to light in Austria, US etc. of the girls/women who'd been held for years, wondering how many more are there out there that we don't know about....
and that was even before they found those 3 in Cleveland!

Hmm Shock

The charity involved helps with forced marriages. I wonder whether that's how it all started.

One of women is 69!

There's few details from the news reports I've heard so there may be an ongoing investigation, I hope the captives have managed to break a massive ring of slave traffickers or whatever her captors are. :(

I feel sad that the one thing they have, anonymity will now be chiselled away.

I pray for their mental health and rehabilitation, and that their captors are suitably punished.

I don't how it can be described as the "worst case of slavery ever" in Britain by the police since there were a few men with learning difficulties freed a couple of years ago- does anybody remember that? Last year I think.

I don't think you can possibly know enough about this case to claim it is not as bad as the previous one.

They've told us very little about what really happened to these women.

Join and how can you equate a case with another, when we don't know what's going on behind closed doors. :(

I remember that duchesse

I'm not equating one case with another Confused

I'm saying that we don't have enough information to start disbelieving the police when they say this is the worst case.

What they mean by that is not clear at present, but there is no basis on which to claim any other case was worse.

If the 30 year old was born into this situation how can she be a british citizen, wouldnt they need to have registered her birth for her to be british? And if they did then why were there no questions raised about this baby that didnt turn 5 and go to school or go to the doctor anything?

All horrific, whatever way it happened.

I hope they get good support to try and live happy lives from now on.
