Their justification for price rises was the hike in cost of wholesale prices. At least three of them may not be accurate with their reasoning, as the rates they pay have actually gone down between 2010 and 2012. Funny that.

Doctor Who - Agree with you totally and it was quite sickening to read how Mp's are claiming expenses to heat their second homes.... Maybe they ought to just put on a bloody jumper - that was Cameron's advice, right?

What people rarely mention when they're bashing 'big business' is that energy companies with fewer than 250,000 customers are exempt from some of the 'green' charges, such as the Energy Companies Obligation or the Warm Home Discount.

Also, companies that do not actually produce energy from fossil fuels, but, presumably buy energy from companies that do, as you can't separate out what comes down your power line, are not involved in either the EU Emissions Trading Scheme nor the Carbon Price Floor.

It's not exactly a level playing field; the 'Big Six' bear much higher costs. BBC link.
