It is quite extraordinary that if I take my otherwise normal happy healthy child to hospital 3 times within a year I will be automatically investigated, but if a half-starved baby with bruises and uncooperative parents take a baby to hospital, this does not spark an SS visit.

Unbelievable.

WHY do people so this ? If you don't want the baby, terminate the pg or hand the child over to someone who will look after it properly. Disgusting.

do

I can't believe that they let her go wihtout a jail sentance! [anghry] She may have been ill prepared and immature, etc. but even a five year old knows a baby needs milk. She was old enough to have a baby and so she should have been old enough to bear the responsibility of caring for one.

?He told Thomas that he had to do far more to look after Chloe than he would have done if Scott had been a better mother.? WTF!!! so it?s all the mothers fault then cos she didn?t do HER job properly?. Dickensian idiot!!!

sterilisation for both of them imo - harsh - but not as harsh as allowing them to do it again, again and again

Report
lanismum · 04/07/2006 15:13

jesus fucking christ
i dont think sterilisation is harsh at all, these people are animals and dont deserve reproductive organs. i cant believe the hospital let her go back home with them

that judge sounds like an idiot 'you had to do far more to look after chloe than if scott had been a better mother', wtf? so that explains neglecting and abusing his daughter? i'd like to think if i wasn't around that dp could muddle through without giving my baby tea and beating her!

as for letting the mother off on the grounds that she was ill equipped to be a mother.... so are thousands of teen parents but they still do the best they can. what this pair did wasn't just ignorance, it was active abuse of a helpless innocent child.

expatinscotland · 04/07/2006 15:42

WHY isn't social services on trial for releasing a starved and beaten baby BACK to the parents?

she should have been in care from the get go!

and then they go and take kids from parents who so obviously aren't abusing them! WTF?

it's the age of the child that gets me - what on earth does a 4 month old have to do to warrant getting bruised by their parent? (Not that it is acceptable for anyone to hust a child of course but perhaps with a bolshie 4 year old you might be able to see how things can happen)
Where was the HV?
Why didn't the MW pick up the problems during preganancy?
at judge

totally beggars belief - what that poor baby must have gone through in it's short life. The bit about her having breaks in all her limbs that MAY have been caused by a third part ffs how else does a 4 mo get broken bones and a fractured skull.

How stupid would you have to be not to at least know the basics on how to look after a baby.

'How stupid would you have to be not to at least know the basics on how to look after a baby.'

Or how to get to a hospital or police station, leave you baby w/a note saying you don't want it, and walk out.

Agree that the age of parents should not be an issue here.
Either we say, as a society, that young parents have a right to have children and be treated in the same way and have the same rights as older parents and that they also have to take the same level of responsibility, or we have a system where young parents are not seen as capable and are not treated in the same way. You can't give them full parental rights and then when the baby gets clobbered, turn round and say 'oh well, they're very young' - that ignores the rights of the child.

Why did the hospital let the baby go back to the situation that caused her to to go to hospital in the first place? Why did no one else do anything?

I agree that youth isn't an excuse & neither is a difficult upbringing. There is just no excuse for this to have happened.

Makes me very sad.

why is it the social services fail children again and again? Speechless at the judge's comments and the whole thing. Poor, poor little girl.

Cannot believe someone has said that.

It is easy not to know the basics of how to look after a baby. If you have been on the receiving end of bad parenting yourself, where would you learn the basics? When you have had such a bad upbringing yourself it is so easy to believe that horrific behaviour is acceptable, and in fact the norm.

I am not making excuses for the parents. They appear to have been failed by the system themselves as children

That breaks my heart

That poor little thing, she did not ask to be brought into this world and she landed those fuckwits as parents. RIP little one

It is also easy to know the basics of being a human being though maddie. Basic instinct is you don't hurt babies.
Wish i hadn't read this before going to bed

Sickening, the pair of animals who did it (despite their sad childhoods, no excuse for torturing a baby) all the people who let her slip through the net, and the Judge making excuses. Just sickening.
Poor poor baby being born into that!
