'Mumsnet hijacked by sex discussions' - Telegraph article, your views?

Hi all,

There is an article in The Telegraph today discussing the "risqué underbelly" of Mumsnet, and claiming that the site is "being hijacked by women looking to share steamy details of their private lives, leading to complaints from mothers looking for serious advice."

Justine has commented in the article, saying: "Happily it seems some mothers do still have time for their sex lives and we're pleased to provide a go-to destination for straight answers when you need to ask life's important but often embarrassing questions."

What are your thoughts on this?

So, we're supposed to get to it and please our menfolk while we're still recovering from giving birth, but god forbid we should talk about it?

I wish the press would make their minds up about what it is mums are actually supposed to be like, I mean obviously I ignore them, but I'd prefer to not have to see which new opinion I'm supposed to be ignoring this week.

The article is a load of tripe.

I haven't seen any complaints of the pearl clutching nature, and that thread was only minute snippet of among an enormous list of threads/topics/subjects.

The only thing some posters were disgruntled about was that the site was limping along for a few hours because of all the sudden attention.

Completely agree this sounds like a pearl-clutching Daily Fail article. I don't think it makes a single valid point, and the topics it mentions don't include bum sex are pretty tame really.

Oh it's that whole virgin or whore thing again. To be honest, it's more like a Daily Mail article. We are all sexless mothers who wear pinnies and tie bows in our hair before DH comes home to find his dinner on the table.

Have any mothers looking for serious advice actually complained then? I've not noticed any. They don't have to read any threads that offend them, you know. It's not like we discuss sex positions in Breast and Bottle Feeding, is it? Do we?

Oh the irony - a website all about conception, pregnancy, childbirth and raising children actually allows people to talk about the instigation of conception! Outrageous! Perhaps Telegraph reporters think it happens by immaculate conception.

There has been sex/ orgasm threads recently. MNers responses are polite or humorous mind your owns. There is an acknowledgement that sex threads may have a more sinister side to them. I agree with the slow news day. Also, if I had a genuine sex related problem I wouldn't hesitate to ask for advice on here. I think of mumsnet as Wikipedia on Nutella.

what a load of rubbish. Mumsnet is just the same as it always is. A right old mix with sex forming a small proportion I would say. I can honestly say I have never seen a thread discussing a menage a trois. Far too seedy and more likely to be found on NetMums tbh.
