It doesn't get much more sick does it. It's terrifying.

thing is, its so bloody easy to do with web-enabled phones etc etc. so the really big question is how do we stop it?

I heard today that 50,000 adults in the uk are regularly accessing this kind of abuse; but only 2,000 a year are arrested. presumably if the money was there (and the will of the ISPs to assist police) we could nab the rest of the sick fuckers?

I've absolutely no idea how they stop it. Modern technology makes everything so accessible.
At least 50,000 sick fuckers looking at this stuff... that's a lot of people.
I just don't have the words.

They need to introduce laws that send pedophilles to prison for life - and not cushy prisons either. They should be put in chain gangs with no access to sky or computers.

Also people from here who commit offenses abroad should get the same treatment.

Seriously, some of these judges should be investigated for the pathetic rap on the knuckles they award some of these pedophilles - you just think THEY think the same way! Why would any normal person tolerate and reward these animals in this way?

The weaker the sentences, the more it normalises what is happening. I think that is my ultimate fear - that a minority of people out there are too stupid to work out how disturbing it is, and that this spreads until it doesn't become 'that bad'.

We need proper sentencing for paedophiles, for all criminals really. The current legal system isn't fit for purpose, it's mostly about judges and lawyers lining their pockets. Any justice handed out is purely incidental.

Completely agree with bumbolina the fact mps like Harriet Harman want to lower the age of consent really scare me it is like the judiciary and politicians are trying to normalise paedophilia.

I would be very interested to know how many judges themselves are looking at the material- some must given their liberal attitude towards child porn.

There are some sick bastards out there. We all really need to be looking at what more can be done to safeguard children.

I tell you what does need to change and it needs to change now.

child porn.

Remove the word porn and only use the correct word, which is abuse.

I can't tell you how many times I have read reports that talk of child porn.

It's not. It's child abuse. I think it's vital that it is given its proper name so people stop thinking of it as 'porn'.

Don't be daft hecsy I felt awful writing it. It is child abuse that's what I wanted to put but I can be a tad inarticulate.

I feel that society is not taking child abuse in any form seriously enough. The mail (sorry cant link) has refered to the 14 year old victims of an online paedophile as women- there 14 year old children fgs.

Totally agree, the criminal justice system is not fit for purpose when trying to prosecute any kind of violence against women/children.

Shocking Sad
especially the figures.

Quite right about the use of the word 'porn' - it has to stop.

Did anybody see the opinion piece on this in the Saturday Times last week? I wish I could link to it online but the Times is subscription isn't it?

It was an interesting article 'we need to stop internet porn grooming men' and discussed how it was too easy for online porn users (commonly men) to be led down the path to more and more unsavoury viewing abd that a big flashy warning popping up at the right time might be enough to stop a lot of viewers before they access the child abuse stuff.

Apparently CEOP are against this as 'they didn't want to warn men, they wanted to catch them. I'm reminded of councils concealing speed cameras to trap more motorists, forgetting the whole point is to make roads safer'

It's an interesting point well illustrated by such Mumsnet staples as dragon butter. Who hasn't found something on the Internet they didn't want or mean to look at abd at what point do we become so desensitised to it that it changes us to a monster who gets our kicks from child abuse?

food for thought anyway.

I wonder why there're men who do like to abuse a child. If we could answer that question then we'd be able to stop men from becoming monsters.

To start with these men are just ill. We should help them, heal them before they hurt a child.

When they stepped over the line and went from a sick man to a monster. Then it's to late. A child is hurt and all we can do is sent the man to jail for a long time.

I also do think the sexy/naughty 'school girl' thing should be banned. Or the pupil/teacher sex game.
Although played by adults, it could be a start for someone to start liking a child.

I think if the snowden disclosed systems exist (which they clearly do) then there is no excuse for allowing this to continue. Its is clearly a case of government and expenditure priority.
