Tobacco, alcohol, and Marijuana. The only difference is that Marijuana is illegal. Oh, and that alcohol causes far more social problems but people don't want to slate it because they all like a drink..............

Chronic pain is horrendous to live with and marijuana is shown to be quite effective in some circumstances when more traditional painkillers are not. I'm sure some are trying it on or have found Drs who will write a script for whatever they ask regardless of any real condition, but there will be plenty who gain a medicinal benefit too.

I don't think it's medicinal at all, they just say that to make it legal.

I think it's possible for it to be both medicinal and a way of life. There are plenty of people who are a bit cavalier about prescription medicines - I think more so in the US than here - doesn't mean those medicines don't also treat an illness.

They are all quite clearly crackers.

I take (as of recently) anti-depressants, but I haven't told my 17 year old. If she sees them in the cupboard and asks, I won't be ashamed to explain, but I hardly think its necessary to hold prozac parties, or read specialised crank books to her, even if she were younger.

It's either medicinal, or a hippy lifestyle choice: choose, and act accordingly.

Nothing wrong with a bit of weed. Nothing at all.

A lot of weed is a different issue, but then so is a lot of alcohol.

I think medical marijuana has just taken over from valium and cocktail parties in a certain set of parents. I'm sceptical there's been a big change in the number of parents who are consuming some drug while in charge of their kids.

right i am off to score some weed . bye!

Absolutely Burberry. Our relationship with alcohol is toxic. The A&E departments are overstretched with alcohol related work. Paramedics are attacked by drunks. Then there's liver disease and anti social behaviour. It's a scourge.

I'm not saying everyone who drinks behaves badly by any stretch but it does far more harm than cannabis.

burberryqueen Wed 19-Jun-13 16:30:26

ok i will put down the popcorn and join in.
what if i started a 'stoned' thread like the 'drunk' thread?
how would that go down?
yet necking a bottle or three of wine a night is a bit of a funny joke right?

Spidermama Wed 19-Jun-13 16:28:07

grin Hully.

When you see what price we as a nation pay for our relationship with alcohol I think cannabis might well be better than booze. It couldn't possibly be any worse. Apart from the fact that it's illegal, which, of course, complicates matters somewhat.

Spidermama Wed 19-Jun-13 16:25:27

Is there any actual difference I wonder between the legal and the illegal cannabis available in California? Do they take something out of it to make it legal?

BobblyGussets Wed 19-Jun-13 16:25:14

My sister told me about a school near to where we both used to live where the parents were smoking weed in the play ground at school pick up time. The police came apparently; but there's still lots of casual weed smoking outside and in front of kids sad.

I wouldn't say it's worse than booze, but I wouldn't be cracking open a can at school pick up either.

marvellous

So these women are using Marijuana for medical purposes - to relieve pain. Do people who use it for this reason, use less? Enough to alleviate the pain but not enough to be impaired mentally/physically?

burberryqueen Wed 19-Jun-13 16:16:46

popcorn anyone?

SoupDragon Wed 19-Jun-13 16:15:12

Is it any worse than alcohol?

Spidermama Wed 19-Jun-13 16:13:27

That's according to this article on MSN from California where weed parties are legal.
