It seems as though there's no definitive answer to what actually happened yet. She has bruises and has made an accusation, by the look of the story. The exact nature of the crime is not proven. The Boston bombs were 'bombs' until the police said they were bombs.
But don't you go with the allegedly bit when you've a suspect's name to protect, not when there's no suspect and you're just discussing the victim?

I'd imagine it's shorthand for 'allegedly'. What an awful story.
