God no - I saw this too, JT, did you see how much the RSPCA has spent pursuing this? Are they nuts?

I know, ridiculous!

Some guy from the RSPCA was trying to justify their actions on Jeremy Vine yesterday.

8 court hearings in total and every time the policeman's photograph appears in the local paper 'Cat Killer' headlines - it's bloody outrageous - I doubt if this case would have been pursued if it was you or I!

The cat was squished to begin with!

fgs, there are enough genuine animal cruelty cases without pursuing someone who made a perfectly reasonable decision.
Some people have their dog put down just cos they're fed up with it, that's far worse IMO!

So what do the RSPCA say he should have done instead, since the vet said

"The cat had been squashed to within an inch thick at its lower half - he did the kindest thing which was to put it out of its misery whereas if he'd just walked away leaving it injured he could have just as easily faced a charge of animal cruelty."

Really really really stupid and wrong.

Apparently he should have phone the RSPCA who would have sent an inspector out - hmmm wonder how long THAT would have taken - meanwhile cat is squishy hell!

Well considering I once called them to a horse that couldn't get up and they didn't bother to come out until after the bank holiday, I suspect kitty would have had quite a wait .

The policeman did the right thing. The cat could never have been saved so why prolong it's agony?

There are a number of websites dedicated to slagging off the RSPCA for just this sort of thing - complaints that they spend too much money pursuing unnecessary legal action. Undoubtedly they do some great work but sometimes.....
