Just heard this on the news. He claims his support of a ban on abortions after 12 weeks is based on the medical evidence and has nothing whatsoever to do with his Catholic faith.

Colour me skeptical.

12 week limit, says someone who will never need an abortion Angry

Actually I don't believe this will ever come into force because there will full-scale riots in the streets. I think this is a distraction so he can sell off the NHS while we're not looking.

Why CallMeDave appointed this colossal arsehole health minister is a mystery to me. I think it just goes to show that the government doesn't give a shit about us mere mortals.

God, he makes me so angry. Bring on the revolution.

What medical evidence is he talking about? Babies born before 20 weeks have a survival rate of 0%, never mind 12 weeks! At that point their organs are just starting to function; there are no pain pathways developed and no brain activity. Yes, it's alive, but it's alive at 2,4,6,8,10 weeks too, so he can't be basing his argument for 12 weeks on that fact. The 24 week limit makes some amount of sense because it is around that time that the baby develops the ability to survive independently of the mother (albeit with intensive medical intervention). Twelve weeks seems to be a figure that's been plucked out of the air.
