I have been following this trial. Can't work out why the other guy got off. Surely if the woman was unable to consent to sex with one footballer she was also unable with the other guy?

Unless there were some irregularity in the trial, he will have no chance of success. You can't just say "the jury got it wrong."

Well, I read about this case a while ago, and thought what I always think; they'll get off.
I'm just delighted the jury has convicted one of them. With any luck, the judge did a good job and it'll stand.

It was macdonald who picked the woman up and had sex with her first though I believe. Evans watched then had sex with her after. Shame they can't prosecute the twats who were looking through the window too.

It is fairly disgusting when taken to this extreme but I think overall I do support the legal principle that you can't be prosecuted for inaction/an ommission.

interesting that there are now laws whereby you can be prosecuted for murder if you are part of a gang but not the person who actually did the stabbing (as with the recent successful convictions for the steven lawrence case - one stab wound, one perpetrator but 3 men convicted for murder) which is the same principle as watching a rape imo.

What dispicable excuses for human beings they are. If only they could be charged as "accessories to the perpetration of a crime" or somesuch, just as you can be an accessory to murder.

I've been watching this too . . . . think the distinction made was she is shown on CC tv flagging down a taxi, and then appeared willingly, though drunkenly, to go to hotel with MacDonald - thats probably why he was acquitted. Evans then appeared at hotel and joined in. He says she consented, she says she can't remember. Don't think there's much for him to appeal against tbh. And completely agree there should be some way the watchers/filmers/nastypiecesofwork should be prosecuted.....

They're accessories to what? Watching two people have sex. They are sick and despicable but I can't support any kind of prosecution because it's impossible to prove they knew a crime was happening and should have intervened.

About 10 people were convicted yesterday over the murder and manslaughter and allied charges of a 15 year old boy at Victoria Station in London nearly two years ago.

It was originally hoped to bring charges of some kind of crime by association (forget the precise name) against at least 24 people. It was just too difficult.

However I do think it ought to be brought home that by passively watching an alpha male fuck a girl these young men enjoyed a homoerotic experience. Maybe that might penetrate their tiny minds.

I meant to say that you could never prove beyond reasonable doubt they knew she was being raped.

The charge I was trying to think of in the Victoria case is called joint enterprise. To make it stick because in that case they would have had to prove that everyone knew that a murder was likely to result and took part anyway.

I don't know whether they used it in the end. A total of three people were charged and convicted of murder and 10 others were convicted of serious but still lesser charges because they'd have probably got off everything if they'd have been charged with murder.

Well he's out and Sheffield United fans are all over the place wanting him back. (And the amount of victim blaming I'm seeing is horrific).

A spokesman for the Sheffield United fans was on PM (radio 4) yesterday explaining that he'd done his time and that United wouldn't just play him, they'd also send him into schools

I heard this yesterday on the radio. His girl friend was on saying he doesn't want to be a role model he just wants to return to his profession which just so happens to be in the public spot light.

The whole thing from the fact it is even being considered to his girl friends attitude made me sad and tbh quite angry. I appreciate he's served part of his sentence and is now being released, but given the fact the victims entire life will be effected 2 years in prison then straight back to his extremely well paid job in the public eye 8 unacceptable. IMO it amounts to bearly more than a slap on the wrists.

He has served his sentence albeit half rather than the full 5 years and he should be able to return to his profession.

It's a well paid job and he's in the public eye, does that mean he should be prevented from earning a living?

I'm in no way defending him, he has a conviction for rape which he won't ever be able to shake off and he'll get dogs abuse from rival supporters when he travels to opposing grounds.

As for going into schools, any head who would agree to him being considered suitable would need their head examining.

Football bosses don't care about morals, role models or doing the right thing, they want goals off him, success for the team and don't give two shites about public opinion.

Look at other footballers who have returned to the game after serious offences.
