I found it sad but also amazing that the twins had been safely delivered, unassisted.

It was on the news that someone had helped deliver, them and they esimated that they were only an hour old when they were left. Also there was an infection in the placenta and the mum must be very ill too. Hope they find her

She must feel so scared to have done that. I hope they trace her.

Good grief, poor woman. I do hope she is ok. They can't condemn her, surely? Women are out of their minds just after having a baby, and to suddenly have two!!!!!!!

Holly and Jospeh they have named them
Very sad it makes you think what god awful pressures someone must be under to have to do that
All credit, left at a hospital in a warm cocoon, which indicates a sense of obligation and care.
I do hope the poor lass is ok.
You never find out if the mother ever comes back for such cases do you
That would make one amazing documentary

Terribly sad. I wonder if they are talking up the infection to persuade the mother to come forward, though.

Kate Adie published a book recently about foundlings ? some tragic stories.

still haven't found the mother - hope she is alright. You think someone would know something wouldn't you?

I saw A documentary once about adults who were abandoned as babies
None of them knew when there birthdays were, most are newborns so to guess their birthday would'nt be too far off, but some were older babies when they were abandoned so there estimated birthdate could be weeks off.

Can't believe someone can go through a pregnancy, and labour of twins and no one has noticed. Surely someone somewhere must know who this lady is.

I really hope she comes forward or is found soon.
So very sad

DP's mum was abandoned. They could not be sure of her birthdate so gave her VE day and called her Victoria Elizabeth. She was adopted and had fantastic parents.

I think she eventually traced her birth mother somehow and found out that her father was a Canadian pilot over here at the end of WWII.

Mind you things were very different in those days.

The babies were found in a cardboard box that had been decorated with children's wrapping paper, from what I could see. Looked like she had intended to use it as a cot, which is desperately sad.

Hope they'll all be ok

No sign of the mother yet, I hope SS can keep them together when fostered/adopted.

Kathlean, similar story with FIL: abandoned too ( abit later, at two years old)- he was born at end of WWII also. he was adopted (by the Mother of one of the care home nurses) and a had a fantastic childhood, loving his new parents v v much. i think he's like to trace his family- DH would like him to as BIL rarely speaks now (casualties of the parental divorce) and he would like a bigger family.

'Aunty'- the care home Nurse- knows all the story but won't let on, from what we can work out illegitimate birth to black forces member (Aunty v v racist and hates illegitimacy too). Not certain though.

I hope these twins are as happy as FIL was and that Mum can go on to find happiness (does the cardboard box suggest a child? poor mite)
