You know those 2 teenage girls who died rushing for their train, well........

I just had a call from someone to tell me that one of those girls was the daughter of someone I know.
The most lovely, lovely man and the most devoted father. Feel devestated for him, and his family.

What on earth do you say to someone when some a terrible tragedy occurs. He is the most amazing man and father, you couldn't meet a nicer, sweeter man. His wife is a manic depressive, God knows how's she's coping. He just dotes on and adore his kids. I've never seen him when he didn'ttalk about his kids. And 1 couple of years ago, around the Xmas period his ill brother lost his son. Jesus Why do some people have such a terrible time of it, good people as well, that don't deserve this, not that anyone deserves this sort of tragedy. Just ...... oh words fail me

don't ignore him or worry about what to say - just say what comes naturally and let
him know you care. God, what an absolute nightmare - I cannot imagine how he is going to be able to get his head round this. Poor poor guy.

They don't, they happen all the time, it just seems sadder because we're supposed to be all happy families at this time. I think that's one of the reasons why the tsunami appeal was better supported than the earthquake in Pakistan - not just because more Westerners were involved.

A boss of mine lost his only son a few years ago. He was train riding with his mates, all 16, and three of them were decapitated by the railway bridge. I thought of him when I read about these two girls - how awful that it should happen when they were so excited and full of fun. They were doing something dangerous, but who doesn't at that age?

Sorry to hear your sad news TC. Perhaps his loss will result in legislation change and the construction of pedestrian bridges to make these crossings safer. How tragic.

The girls didn't know it was dangerous - they thought the alarm was for their train - stupid stupid system that allowed the gate to be opened when it was sounding for another train. Eight unnecessary risks according to a rail expert (in the Sun but it sounds valid).

So sorry for both families - hope to god at least proper safety measures will now be put in place at this and all similar stations.
