Surely ALL murder is bad???

Heard on radio 2 a short while ago some bloke saying that race crime/murder should carry harsher sentencing than other murders. Why? What about that poor gay bloke who was beaten to death the other month because he was gay, is he any less important a human being than anyone else? Surely all premeditated / cold blooded murder should be treated the same?

Dh was thinking about this last night - he couldn't see any reason why a murder through racism should be more serious than any other murder. Not belittling problems of racism, but surely a murder is a murder.

Agree. Unless someone can prove you're less dead in the latter sort of murder, perhaps?

I agree too... murder is murder... whatever the motive.

Racist murders will always get more coverage however. And only if the victim is black/asian, not if white for some bizarre reason.

I think it is because the tabloids can whip up a frenzy.

Yes I've been thinking about this today as well and can't see why one is viewed more serious than the other Confused

Totally. I mean lads wandering round with an icepick
If that is not intent then ffs what is. Regardless of who or what group of people you are going to attack
I think ever coming out after this sort of attack should not be allowed. Race crime/hate crime being no barrier to life without parole.

I just can't understand how anyone can hate someone else enough to want to take their life let alone in such a violent way. I'm pretty anti violence (unless in self defence or in the defence of the kiddiwinks) and I just can't grasp why people want to even fight let alone kill. Is there something seriously wrong with society?

Yes, murder is murder is murder. The ex chief of the Met now wants the death penalty brought back for cop killers - surely all for one and one for all.

BBB - DH was on about this the other week when that police lady got shot. All the police were out it force as it were, he wondered if it'd be like that if it'd been old Mrs Smith from down the road who just happened to get in the way by accident who'd been killed.

I think with police etc it is because they put their lives in danger to help other people - ie they would not have been there if they had not been called
They all know it a risk of the job.
But that doesn't mean it is deserving of any more of a sentence than the litte bastards who killed Marion Bates at the jewellers in Nottingham.
Although it seems they might be immigrants/asylum seekers from Africa so that will whip the Daily Mail and friends up a bit...

I feel very uneasy about this idea that racist murder is worse than any other kind of murder. Why is racism worse than sexism, or homphobia, or just downright cruelty?

I don't care why these horrible people killed that poor boy, the state shouldn't be policing our thoughts, only our actions. I don't care about their motives, just about the fact that they did it. And they should get the same sentence as anyone else who carries out a vicious pointless attack, for whatever reason.

There was a case only about a week ago of a white man who was killed by 3 Asians in very similar circumstances. Because it wasn't deemed racist (who cares whether it was or not?) they will get a lighter sentence than these other murderers. Frankly, they're all as bad as each other and should be locked up for the same amount of time. Anything else looks like justice being extrememly peculiar.

I understand the point about the police having to endanger themselves in the line of their work, but you could say the same of security guards, nurses, bank clerks, and even, incredibly, fire-fighters (I heard recently that there's a craze among some mad loons to try and kill fire-fighters for fun by setting cars alight and leaving home made incendiary devices in, timed to set off just as the fire-fighters arrive. )

No but the point is Cod, that the minimum tarif for racist murder is higher than for every other type of murder. As though the motive of racism is worse than any other motive.

Hey, I'm white, female, british - if I get murdered by some loon does it not matter as much as when a black/asian, male, imigrant gets killed?

Obviously not then
