Wheely bins by the front door. Do you judge?

We have wheely bins next to the front door. They don't smell (much).

I'd never thought twice about it but on some property show they reacted as though it was a hideous faux-pas. Are there wheely bin location rules that everyone's been keeping a secret from me?

I think if you were selling your house, its not the done thing to have your wheelie bin at your front door.

its half and half on our street, the end I live we all put bins round teh back or up our side alleys (behind gates) all the 2 bed houses at top of road have bins out the front as they have no where else to store them, personally I dont like bins outside the front of my house but thats just me!

Loads of people have them by the front door around here, there's not always room at the back or side and if you're in a terrace the alternative is to drag the bin through the house on collection day! Wouldn't occur to me to judge.

Trouble is, most houses aren't designed for us to keep wheelie bins conveniently out of sight. Personally, I wouldn't judge a house, by it's wheelie bins! If I bought said house however, I would move heaven and earth to move them to somewhere less obvious though!

Don't get me started on wheelie bins! The huse I live in has no side access as it has ben extended. We have a special little place for two bins, though, nicely out of sight. We have now been given a 3rd bin by they council - Where the hell am I supposed to put it????? It's currently in the middle of the drive in front of the garage door looking ridiculous.

DH can't understand why I'm so annoyed by my new recycling bin.

So yes, I am snobby when it comes to wheelie bins. Especially ones that are left out on the street after they have been emptied. When youn come home from work;put your bin away, for heavens sake!

What did the programe sugest you do with teh bins?

I bet they suggested buying those stickers to put all over them, to make them 'blend' into the background!

There have been fires started this way, by youths setting fire to them, in one house a 3 year old boy died.

My SIL recieved a wheelie bin; previously tthey'd had the old fashioned kind. She declared there was not enough room for her or her neighbours to keep them - they lived in a row of small cottages with shared access and no real garden space front or back. She made the council take the wheelie bins away.

X post - programme shed no practical light on the matter. We do have some space around the side (semi-detached) but it's taken up with plants I want to keep and a compost bin. Everywhere else is a football pitch as far as the DSs are concerned. I'll work on it.

Frightfully common.

We have no where else to keep them they have to go out the front and as we have no front garden just a foot of space in front that's where they go. It really bugs me as mine is turned side ways so the lid opens facing you as you come out of the front door all others along the street have them facing so the lid opens to the street frontways, if that makes sense. The only problem with that is it takes up more pavement space so I have to go out onto the road to push the buggy, thankfully it is quiet and we rarely have cars unless they live there. But one of these days I am going to go along and turn all the bins around, or is that unreasonable?

We have no choice. It's outside the front door, or no bin at all.

Not really around here its all terraces so some people have no choice to keep them at the front if they have no side access.

Our street looks mega scruffy because we front onto the street so the bins are actually on the street itself on bin day and people are lazy so bin day seems to stretch monday-thursday

Bins wherever the hell they fit.

I am not wheeling mine through the house to get them out. Thankfully we have space towards the other side of the front garden to store em.

i hate wheelie bins that are covered in that nasty blend it in sticker stuff... its a wheelie bin fgs. they are a fact of life. get on with it.

does anyone remember the cabinets, that had a wooden bit at the front, so you could pretend it was just a pice of furniture, and not a tv inside? just like those imo..

Ours are on the drive, as are most people's in our cul-de-sac. They are well away from the front door though. They are too wide to fit through our side gate which is pretty annoying.

I don't find them offensive.
