Steam generator iron problems.......

blossomsmine · 18/04/2009 23:36

......I bought a Hinari one in the sale in October, i know it isn't a 'top' of the range one. I have been really happy with it but all of a sudden it has stopped steaming!

I can only now iron without steam which isn't much good!

I can't even do the self steam as it doesn't steam for that either.

Anyone had this problem??

Hi - just wondered if maybe your filter needs replaced? Maybe the steam jets are clogged up with scale?

Sakladdie · 19/04/2009 18:02

i had this problem with previous iron.I just put it out as easier to be truthful.
Dont think its scale as i live in soft water area.
As i have small ironing business i just presumed mine had had enough.

.......oh...I suppose it could be the filter how stupid i never thought of that! I wasn't really thinking that the filter would affect the steam?? But i will get a new one, filter that is, i don't want to throw the iron away, its only 5/6 months old!
Thanks

blossom- my iron did that (its a big philips one) and basically my mum came over and sorted it out. a bicycle pump was used.. but i cant remember how?!?! will ask her next time we meet- basically a gust of air was blown through one part and it stated working magically again!will update (hopefully, if i remember) - doubt its the filter cos its the steam thats stopped..

Sammy, oh, that sounds really good!! Thanks I think that sounds kind of what it needs cos the filter thing wouldn't really affect the steam would it?

At the moment i am using my old iron, glad i kept it now!

I will check the thread just in case you manage to get back!

I used to repair steam generator irons, mostly Morphy Richards ones.
The main issue is water pump which feeds water to the boiler. Water can be broken but still noisy or become quiet. Disconnect water tank with filter, put finger on the tip which suppose to suck water. Should fill small suction on the finger. If you fill suction, connect back water tank. If water tank is transparent should see water coming into the boiler. Next step to check if cord between steam generator base and iron is hot, if yes there is blockage in the iron. The most common place is elbow feeding steam to soleplate. Can expect ther limescale.

I have a Bosch and whenever it stops steaming I clean the water tank according to the manual. I've had it for about 6 years and by following the instructions it always gets it back steaming again.

I know this is not quite the same problem but thought it would be OK to post here rather than start a new thread. Having extolled the virtues of my Phillips iron on MN, I now have a problem in that it often pours water out of the sole plate when I try to steam. Any ideas anyone? I will try to remember to contact the customer care dept but I keep forgetting

Hi.
when you remove the water tank, under the top edge of the body there is a
small nipple.this has a silicon seal towards the rear.
pull the seal towards you until it bulges then refit the tank.
this seal seales the fillter to the generator unit and if it wont the pump keeps buzzing.

I am in Turkey currently and purchased a vestel steam iron, used for the first time, great machine but noticed the sole plate on the bottom right hand corner you can see the wires and lead connection, should e sole plate not cover this and is it safe to use? I don't speak Turkish and the shop keeper can not understand what the problem is? Is there one??

I can't imagine what the issue could be ... I've never had any issues with my Tefal one - I always clean the water tank so most likely case of scenario here is that's what you need to do. Of course it all depends - I haven't had any experience with Hinari before and the most reliable one I've seen is Phillips (though my Tefal is also amazing). Maybe think about getting another one? There are actually rather many factors that come to play when choosing a decent steam generator ... Not always is the hype true! I chose mine after doing some research from PinkyCloud (in case anyone is interested on how to choose a proper one: pinkycloud.com/choosing-the-steam-generator-types-models-and-options-owners-reviews ). There are rather many aspects to choosing the best and as I mentioned - not always is the hype or higher price an indicator of quality (not that I can say Hinari isn't awesome!).

I have a Morphy Richards Intellidome steam generator and now when I plug it in it warns the tank is empty even though it is full. It therefore will not steam up. I've cleaned the tank and changed the filter but it makes no difference. Any idea what I should try next?

Following on from the suggestion about using a bicycle pump I used a foot pump. I removed the filter and placed the foot pump nozzle over the inlet and outlet nozzles that connect with the filter. I gave them both a good blast of air and now the tank empty icon has gone off and I have steam once more. So if you have a similar problem try it!

Hi Bovario I have a Morphy Richards Elite 330001 steam generator iron and the light keeps coming on and the steam stops even though the water tank is full. When I disconnect the tank and push it back on the light goes off and the steam starts to work again for a few minutes and then I have to repeat the process. I have recently bought a replacement water tank but after trying it out today it is still doing the same. Can you or anyone please advise me as to what would be wrong. It seemed to me like was an issue with the water tank but obviously it's not. ThanksSmile
