I think I need a new vacuum cleaner

...and am apprehensive because I have loved my old one. Insofar as it is possible to actually love a vacuum cleaner. It's the first model Dyson and every single person who has serviced it (3 different men over the years) has remarked on what a great machine it was and how the modern ones are not as good, which worries me!
Does anybody have an upright they love? I dislike...whatever the ones that are not upright are called (pully-about ones?). I am not keen to go back to bags, either - the nice thing about the whirly about cyclone thing is that DH thinks it is a toy and will use it.

It's upright though? I like my Miele dishwasher so I did have a quick look on their site, but they looked pully-about at first glance. Will check again, thanks.

boogeek, I couldn't agree more, I have one of the older dysons and its still going strong after 10 years of good service - its a workhorse! I have just bought another reconditioned one (old model DC04) from a local guy who services them -£69, its fantastic! Love them both. I had a Miele for less than a year, suction was good but such a delicate thing motor blew after 9 months and Miele wouldn't honour the warranty because said liquid had been picked up, I hadn't picked any liquid up with it . Try and find a reconditioned Dyson.

Hmm, I could try. Or I could get mine looked at again, but I honestly think it is on its last legs, poor thing. It's done 11 years' hard labour so I don't mind too much!
I'd be interested to know what people think of the current Dysons, if anybody has one?
