The bearings have gone (we think) on our just over 9 years old Hotpoint Washing Machine.

Have been told we should buy a new one.

I am after an A+ one with a big drum, but being a bit of a novice, so have no idea what's around.

I have a miele and it was pretty pricey but has an estimated 20 year life (came with ten year guarantee) and works very well .

I am looking at the Bosch & also the Zanussi which came top in the Which report.

Is it worth trying another independent washing machine repairer? Second opinion etc before you splash out on major expense.

Apparently the German ones are the most reliable - don't touch the "British" made ones. Miele used to be used in navy submarines because they are so reliable - don't know if it is still true but it would be a good recommendation if it is.

I'm wondering if it might be - although it may be on it's last legs due to age ?

Just done a wash, but everything is covered in grey marks, so something is very wrong.

got a hotpoint but although the quick wash is 30 mins it needs another 30 mins to spin!

Man in the shop said don't go for one that spins beyond 1700 rpm (? may have to check that fig) as they rip your clothes!

thanks for recommendations. We've gone for the zanussi that was top of the which report.

Ooh, can't wait
