Small holes in clothes after washing, how/why?

Very bizzare, several holes have appeared in clothes (all belonging to me) after being washed in the machine.

Am bit pissed off as about five of my favourite tops now have obvious holes in the front (and weirdly mainly in the same place).

Any ideas what is causing this? Do I have a washing mahcine poltergeist?

moths?

or are you spilling something repeatedly on yourself that is weakening the fibres?

This happened to me on all my work clothes - was a new cleaning agent they were using - supposedly harmless stuff but not for my clothes. Clothes went into the wash with splashes of the stuff on it then came out with little holes where the splashes were

when that happened to some of our clothes when i was growing up, it turned out to be a small hole in the drum - only had a few isolated small holes, and then one day it chewed up an entire load - just shredded it all

Otherwise, maybe stuff is getting caught on zips?

Just a thought as this happened to me - loads of my tops all in the same sort of place and then I realised it was one of my web belts had a bit sticking up on the buckle catching and tearing my clothes! Thought it was moths with a particular liking to the front of my tops

I have this problem too! I wrecked a really nice top from Next after only wearing it a handful of times and I was gutted! My t-shirts have holes too. I can only guess that as it only happens to my clothes then it must be the sticky-out bit of my belt.

Not round my belly button but I am about 5ft 5-6 tall Ruby, why do you ask?

They aren't moth holes more like little rips and many of the holes are at the side of the top so not caused by belts..

It could be zips but tend to wash tops separatly from jeans, though will do this religiously now before I run out of tops...

Could be a hole in the machine drum too, will need to get it checked out.

moth holes can look like little rips - they chew the fibres but not enough to make a hole, then the stress of the washing mahcine rips the weak patch

is it where the top is under stress eg the side you always hold dd?

Oh this can happen with washing machines, I have heard of it before but forget why.

Google it, there are whole webpages dedicated to this iirc.

this has happened to me too! a number of times over the past years, it sort of comes and goes, and its always only my clothes! i actually think its because my clothers are thinner than the dds or my dhs (he just has t-shirts from M&S and jeans).

I can't figure it out and blame it on my cheap old washing machine. it kills me. all my clothes have holes at the moment, and most are round the below-the-navel area, however can't be from jeans since i'm 39 weeks and haven't worn jeans in a whiiiile....

MrsB it could be moths but then why only MY clothes?
Am now starting to feel rather persecuted as DH and DSs clothes all fine.
And the holes appear about 3/4 down the front or side of my tops so no not areas of tension.
The mystery continues, will check out the link Anarchy.
Ruby what was the reference to height and belly buttons?
