White floor paint

Taking up the yucky old carpets upstairs has revealed reasonably nice floorboards. I'm keen to paint them white to lighten up the rooms (have low ceilings and need to 'lighten and brighten' before anyone suggests staining them dark).

Can anyone recommend a hard wearing white floor paint (ideally not too glossy) which can be mopped and knocked about by small children. I've scoured Homebase and found remarkably little. Tried one, but even after 3 coats it isn't as opaque as I would like.

I might be swayed by a 'healthy' paint if anyone knows a good one.

Hi, my MIL does this, she has dogs rather than children! As far as I am aware, she just paints (everything) in normal white gloss and just repaints as necessary.

You know what? You have inspired me to do mine.

In my old house I just did them with gloss, it's no more slippy than varnished floors.

Really - just plain old gloss paint? Doesn't have to be a special hardwearing floor paint or anything?

(I need to mop regularly as bloody beloved cat produces fur balls regularly)

Our bathroom floor is painted with International floor paint - readily available from Homebase etc. It's quite chipped but I think that's more because it's been applied too thickly than any problem with the paint. I can't imagine that gloss would be any good but haven't tried it. I have read that the Little Greene Paint Company's floor paint is very good for a more eco option - if I get rouond to re-doing our bathroom I will use that.

excellent - I'll look into those. The Little Green Paint Co is ringing some distant bell actually.

Paint Library is low VOC and does a huge range of colours in different finishes- acrylic might do well for floors. I think it's made by the same people as Little Greene Paint Co (also v good)
