monster flies in upstairs bedrooms

Yukky, disgusting monster black flies keep appearing in the upstairs bedrooms. I've no idea where they're coming from, or what to do about them. DS keeps bringing me dead ones he finds on the window sills, saying 'dirty, dirty'. They certainly are. It's really freaking me out in an argh-I'm-38-weeks-pregnant-and-can't-cope-with-dirt kind of way. The house is clean, we have no pets, don't leave food out. Where, oh where, are they coming from??

Any advice, wise MNers?

You only need to worry if DS starts talking to invisible pigs!

Seriously - is there the possibility that a creature has died in your attic or under floorboards - mouse, bird etc.? Don't mean to gross you out. I'm guessing it would smell though.

Mmm, slightly grossed out at thought of decomposing creature infested with fly larvae... Yukko. However, can't smell anything. DH says he can't see/smell anything in the attic, but I might get him to double-check. I can no longer fit through the hatch .

Have bought some fly paper in the meantime...

It certainly sounds like something has died. You don't ahve a blocked up, or unused chimmney do you? We got loads of flies, huge enormous horrible things in our living room, it was like a horror film. It turned out a bird had fallen down teh chimmeny, died and then , well .....it was horrible.
