Anyone got a professional oven cleaner in and NOT been impressed?

So, those professional oven cleaner people - like ovenu and so on. Are they really worth the money? I have been pondering getting one in - just moved house and the oven needs some attention. It's not too horrendous - I mean, it's basically clean, but it's discoloured with baked-on stuff and looks like it's had a long time of only being cleaned superficially.

I can't face the idea of doing it myself, too pregnant and too tired. DH says "oh I'll do it", but I know he won't. He'll intend to, but he won't. But at the same time, I can't help but think it's silly to pay someone else to do it when we really should be able to do it ourselves. I suppose I'm just wondering if the results would be much better than we'd get ourselves?

I've got the solution for you! You don't need to get someone in to do it, you need to buy "Oven Pride". It is quite simply the best oven cleaner you can buy and completely hassle free. It costs £3.89 amd you can get it from most supermarkets. It comes in a box and all you do is literally pour half of the solution in the oven and swish it around a bit and the other half goes in this bag which you then put your racks in and that's it for about twelve hours. Just do it before you go to bed and then you just rinse in the morning. There is no scrubbing involved and when you rinse the racks they are as good as new. You will be so surprised at how little you have to do. It comes in a box. Much cheaper than paying someone to do it and almost just as stress free, hope this helps.

Personally, I would get a professional oven cleaning company - I know it is a stupid,but I didn't want to risk having exposure to strong chemicals when I was pregnant ..

It will only be a one off ...

We used ovenu when we moved house recently. He cleaned the oven more thoroughly than I ever could. He took the whole thing apart removing seals/doors etc and it looked brand new when he had finished!

i have a guy over once a year to clean the oven - it is fantastic!!! during the rest of the year i use dr.beckmans just to keep it resonable and also use the oven liners from lakeland. works for me and i cook alot.

Have since discovered a £6.00 tup of builders wipes will shift almost anything. Especially combined with xylene.

Used cookaburra and he was rubbish, didnt even do the hob!
"Sparkle" are a franchise and meant to be very good and not too £££, I woudl have used themlast time but they were booked up when I needed it done.

I had a man round to put in a new fan in my oven and he reckoned that he sees lots of people whose ovens have been knackered by these oven-cleaning people. Apparently, some of them get their products on the heating elements and ruin them.

Get somebody in if you are pregnant. You don't want to be breathing in nasty chemicals and you'll find it difficult to bend down and clean right inside the oven. I live in London and used www.ovencleaningspecialist.com, though I think they cover other areas too. They did a great job and I find it much easier to keep it clean now it's had a good going over.

I'd been thinking that being pregnant was a good excuse reason not to clean the oven myself. Am a bit worried about the possibility of it knackering my oven though! Or just not doing a very good job. How much does it generally cost?

I am surprised! I thought it was only rich people who had oven cleaners in!!! I always wanted one in to tackle my awful oven but thought people in 'normal' houses didn't have oven cleaners in!!! Oooh!! I might be brave then

I have used ovenu and they were absolutely brilliantly fantastically brilliant.

For £70 it looked as if I had a new oven and hob. It was unbelievably clean and there's no way I could have done that. Definitely worth the money.

NO THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE MONEY

you don't NEED to have your oven restored to favtory-showroom perfection. You just need the main grime removed, which can be done with a decent oven cleaning product such as Lakeland's ovenmate.

I did mine last week and it is BRILLIANT. It took about an hour, spead out in 5-or-10 minute segments

Save yourself 60 quid for something fun. I'd rather have some new shoes and clean my own oven!

My sisters and I club together for siblings' birthdays, and normally ask the recipient what they would like so there are no duff prensents received.

This year, I am seriously considering asking for them to organise someone to clean my oven for my birthday.

I would like that more than flowers/choccies/clothes/cds etc.

I got Ovenu to do mine when it was only 6 months old, thinking I would be able to keep it nice and clean by yearly deep cleans. I was quoted £90 max charge depending on how dirty it was. Guess what, I got charged £90, even though it wasn't very dirty at all. Also, there were smear marks left on various bits of it, the stainless steel/chrome shelves, the glass. It took so long because he spent ages chatting to me about his life.

I will never get anyone to do it again, I just wasn't impressed at all. It comes up better when I do it myself. It is very easy to slot out all the bits myself and using Ovenmate from Lakeland which is non toxic means no scrubbing either.

I've used Cookerburra and they were fab. Did my hob as well.

No nasty chemical smells and all of the work she did by hand.

Oven is now sparkly and looks brand new. It cost me £60 and I'd def use them again

TBH I think the local Ovenu guy was the problem rather than oven cleaning companies in general. This guy was telling me all about his previous high flying executive travelling around the world working for major brands job, before he got made redundant and had to start this new franchise etc etc. You have my sympathy, not carte blanche to charge me top dollar for doing a crap job

I have ovenu once a year and he does an absolutely fantastic job - £90 for a range cooker. Well worth it, no smelly chemicals and a really clean oven.

OvenPride all the way here. I do it about once a month, leave the solution in overnight and just wipe away in the morning. Easy, cheap and quick (so long as you're doing something else for the 12 hours!).

There's no farking way I'd pay someone £70+ to clean my oven when I can do the same job with not much more effort for less than 4 quid ! In fact, it's less than that because I don't do my racks every month (prob every 3rd month as they don't really get dirty), so I use half the solution in the actual oven and save the rest until next month.
