if anyone's other half knows about them...

i've just plumbed my washer in (by myself woohoo!) anyhow before I get carried away...... a few probs

  1. the drum is hard to push round inside when there's nothing in it - and it's squeeking now when it is going around, and making an oddish sound is also loud on the spin)
  2. it's causing some small rips in my tops (only tops) doesn't matter how old, or what shop. always in the same place as well.

any thoughts? it's coming up to 5 years old, and has done me well (is a hotpoint) but I need to know - should I get a new one (can't really afford to do that thou) well at least not for another month, or do I go to the hotpoint people and pay my £15 per month for a year to have the man out to fix it?

    basically is it knackered?

(think it's using a hell of a lot of electric as well) - it was A but not sure if they can degrade over time or not?

This article may be of use with the rips.

Should have said it could be the bearings that are going on the machine that's why it's so noisy.

Ooooh, I used to have a Hotpoint and mine started ripping holes in things too - T shirts in fact, I think it may be a jersey fabric thing.

Get rid as soon as you can afford it, but don't get another Hotpoint, get a Bosch

thanks guys, for the minute I think i'm going to have to pay the years thing to hotpoint - don't want to do it, but I think that way i'll be able to save for a new one next year and get the one I really want as opposed to one which will tide me over & be a reconditioned one (which is all I was going to get)

wendy - any reason found for it at all?

I don't remember, dtm, sorry - it was 3 machines ago!

You could try getting some of these mesh laundry bags for the more delicate things though.

no well, the man in the van's just been, and apparently it was the bearings and some carbon bush thingys or something?? anyhow hopefully now it's all sorted, he said the probs with my tops were prob cos of the bearings. so now I have to take the old one to the tip - but at least I can hear the radio now when the washer's on!
