Help! All my nappies smell of petrol!

DH washed his rags in the machine last night, I did an empty wash this morning to clean the machine but it didn't work and all my nappies (I mean all, my entire stash! and wraps!) smell now.

I have washed them twice, no result. Any ideas??

(x-posted in nappies topic as well)

Just googled it and here was someones reply

Add a can of Coke a Cola to your load it gets rid of grease and odor. Vinegar might work but I'm not to sure it is a hard odor to get rid of. I use Coke in my hubbys work clothes and it get all the grease and smell out and he is a mechanic.

They said it worked.

Try it without anything in the machine to get rid of the lingering smell and then perhaps do it again with nappies in.

Good luck.

DH has 'taken on the case' (think he feels a bit guilty!) and done another empty wash with loads of detergent as he says it is oil, not petrol.

He was nearly going to put them in with fabric conditioner to 'mask the smell'
