Why isnt DIY isnt simple as i thought!!!

im decorating my bathroom. Yesterday managed to get the last bit of tacky Artex off the ceiling (previous owners did it) and it was so bloody hard!!....BUT on one corner where the chimney breast used to be (i live in a Victorian House), it hadnt been rendered at all!!! so it just bare plasterboard underneath the artex and i tried to steam it to get the Artex off it so now im having a go sanding it down by hand

DIY is hell I hate it. I suppose the old adage nothing worth while takes a short time is true but that don't make you feel any better, ,my condolences. Well done on getting the artex of by the way.
