What would you put in a utility room

I'm currently doing a two storey extension and intend to use the ground floor room as a utility room.
There's lots of space so I need ideas to fill it.
Thanks

bin,
boiler,
huge tub of dog food,
recycling box,
sink with double cupboard,
tub full of mops + brooms + feather dusters,
loads of coats and probably lots more!

  • lucky you. HOw about a bench for DCs to sit on to put welly boots on? (only worth it if it also has a door to the garden, though) Maybe one of those maidens on the ceiling, for drying/airing washing?

Would LOVE a laundry room - so washer, dryer, ironing board, clothes maiden etc. If there were lots of space I'd also use it to house the hoover, spare light bulbs, batteries and tool box. We do already have a corner for a study area to house all the paperwork though. If we didn't that'd be top of the list.
I feel old and responsible now!

Sheila's maid - ceiling mounted clothes airer - keeps it out of the way.

Also i would put my housekeeper in the utility room - mostly.

should add that ours is quite big, was built by previous owners as studio but we needed it as storage (no cupboards anywhere else in house and kitchen is small and total lack of storage in there)...

Would you build an extra large cubboard with plumbing inside for a shower (which can be used now as a larder) just in case you ever need a ground floor shower or is that planning to far ahead.

Down stairs shower room. next to the utility which also has a loo and sink (in shower room), great idea. Good for all sorts of reasons. Is it big enough? You will have to do the plumbing for sink in utility room anyway.
