Iron broken - any recommendations?

Literally just now - ironing away when suddenly my iron started sticking to everything (ironing cotton pillow case). It then melted my very new ironing board cover, thought it strange but plodded on, muttering under my breath that I now need to buy a new cover again etc.... then suddenly realized that iron had stopped working completely! I'm getting it over heated.

So I'm now looking for a new iron, I hate irons (had one blow up on me and burn my arm quite nastily a few years back so I don't want to take chances with my old one)

Any preferences?

We've recently bought a Phillips cordless iron and it seems great so far.

we brought a Phillips recently and it's fantastic. A vast improvement on my previous iron even before it got burn 'black stuff' on the bottom, really made a mistake not buying Philips. What can you say about an iron? It glides easily and does the job it should so best to focus on features I like, the first is that the steam button is on the underside of handle like a trigger which makes it easier to use, second it has a filter to lower the effect of hard water and lastly I like the cord loop which stops it getting snagged on the ironing board.
