A Henry or a Hoover (or another vacuum cleaner)?

I had a Miele, which seems to be unwell (weird noise, smells way too much like it's about to set on fire).

I'd get another Miele (it's our fault it's dying as somebody the husband used it to clear up chunks of plaster) but they are €€€ (and I'd like one that is useful for pet hair) and none on sale at the moment and I want to spend under €200 (in Ireland).

Always heard good things about Henry and Henrietta (not sure about the pet hair side of things) like the idea of the long lead thingie.

Any way any suggestions? I open myself to the MN expert panel for advice on my next vacuum; I have a mixture of flooring - carpet, tiles, and wood laminate, plus a somehow very hairy short haired cat

I wouldn't buy that Hoover, they have a very poor reputation. They had to deactivate their social media accounts due to the number of complaints they were receiving.

Henry's are great, but if you have multiple floor types and pets, go for the Henry Xtra. It comes with multiple floorheads - a turbobrush for carpets and a soft suction-only brush for hard floors - so you get the best on both floors.

I also have the V6 cordless. Brilliant but I wouldn't recommend it as the only hoover.

Henry. I used to work in a hotel and they used Henry's. I was told they use them in Windsor castle!
We've had 2 Henry's in 10 years. Heavy usage and still going strong.

Another Henry fan. Recommend you buy the Red Airo Power HiPro Brush carpet attachment. Without it, the suction on carpet can make it tricky to pull along.

If you get a Henry you must get the airo brush if you have pet hair. I've got a hetty and it was rubbish with the normal attachment but amazing with the airo brush. I have a long haired cat that moults loads.

TofuCat, that's why I suggested the Henry Xtra. The normal tool is very difficult to use on carpets, the Xtra comes with the airo brush and the hard floor brush.

I love my Henry. I had one given to me, so had no idea how old it was, and it lasted 10 years with me. Recently gave up the ghost and so I bought another one. Easiest decision ever.

PS. Have you spoken to miele? Their entire business model.is based around products that last and are fixable. Are you sure it's terminal?

Good things about Henry:

Lasts forever
Long cord
Good suction

Bad things:
Has a habit of toppling over
Face is a bit weird after a while

I like bag vacuum cleaners. I put lavender oil on the filters sometimes which counters any bad smells.

I love my vax hoover you can take of the middle and shake all the dust and crap into your main bin outside. It has different attachments and quite easy to move around.

Miele Cat and Dog is 260 in power city. My very top amount can be 200, but I'd prefer around the 100, 150. For 200 I want one that works itself.

This was my second Miele, I also killed off the last one too. I am a murderer of vacuums.

I have a Henry. They are solidly built - never had a problem in 6 years of owning one, but it's really heavy to get up and down stairs and not great for pet hair.

PowerCity / DID will probably price match. I just like buying from Irish companies if possible.
I have no involvement with any of them whatsoever.
On other vacuum threads the Henry didn't get great reviews.

Hetty for 10 years. Really good suction, long cord, never broken down, never smells. It's a bit heavy, but we just wheel it behind us while we hoover. Really happy with it.
