We bought a Dyson DC34 handheld vacuum cleaner in 2013 and recently noticed that the power supply, which is an unusual design and made from hard, brittle plastic, had a substantial crack that exposed mains electric contacts. I found the power supply plugged into the wall, with the contacts partly exposed. With the gentlest pull, I was able to completely expose the contacts. This would electrocute and potentially burn or kill a person on contact.
Extremely worryingly, we have a curious and exploratory 19 month old, and this is just the kind of thing he would investigate, and perfectly accesible to prying little fingers. I feel very lucky that I am not reporting an entirely more horrible story.
I contacted Dyson and not ony have they not apologised or expressed any concern about the risk they caused, but they refused to replace the part as it is out of warranty. They simply wrote, extremely obviously, "it should not be used if it is broken and should be kept away from the reach of children". I had to buy a replacement power supply, of the same dangerous design, so that I could continue using my expensive vaccum cleaner.
I am disappointed with the response of Dyson, and would never buy another Dyson product after this poorly designed power supply has caused such risk to my family.
