Open windows as often as possible.
Mop floors with Zoflora.
Make sure upholstery isn't harbouring nasty smells.

The odd blast of reeds/candle/or oil diffuser?

Never use commercial "air fresheners" plug ins, stick things etc. They are fecking rancid and stink.

Open windows.
Keep floors and surfaces clean.
Use essential oils if you need a scent.

Keep it clean
Don't have animals
Air it out regularly.

A relative of ours has six or seven different types of air fresheners (plug ins, potpourri, automatic air sprays, diffusers and incense) all at the same time. The migraine inducing smell practically knocks you over as you walk in.

I've heard spraying Febreze on your radiators before they come on is a good one.

Zoflora floors and paintwork
Febreze upholstery
Air freshener inside Hoover
Lemongrass oil in burners

All of the above nicely masks the fact that I'm a complete slattern Grin

I would love a nice smelling house but I think basically being spotlessly clean is the smell of nice houses. Sadly not mine

Take the carpets up.

Our kitchen/diner smelt and I kept saying to Dh it's the carpet in the diner part.

Took it up to tile and by the time we got back from the tip the house smelt fresher.
