Fridges: more shelves or fewer? Food getting lost & forgotten

Our current fridge is broken and we need a new one. Cue hours of research and argument with DH. I suspect there is no design feature that will help us avoid the chaos that currently reigns in there. But would you say that for the same volume, it is helpful to have more shelves (so that fewer items get stacked on top of each other) or fewer shelves, but more space in between (so you can more or less see to the back of the shelf - provided you have not stacked tons of items on top of each other!)

Any other ideas gratefully received...

Not sure about number of shelves, but I have lots of transparent bins, all labelled, so different types of food go in each one.

Thank you Phoenix! This looks interesting. We use Tupperware for lots of stuff but for some reason the men in the house don't tend to lift the lids, then they complain about food getting forgotten and going off...

I bought a big American fridge about a year ago and I absolutely love it. I think there are 3-4 shelves and then two drawers.
I love :

  • You can stack cartons of juice two deep in the doors
  • you can stand these same cartons and 4 pint milk plastic bottles up on the shelves.

So practical !

Just found these on Amazon

My fridge organisation isn't absolutely perfect yet - I think I might try a few of these out! They come jn different colours too.
